It’s never about what I wanted – (Chapter: Its how it started)

“What could possibly be so bad that you’d do this to yourself?” Spencer whispered into her ear.

“I couldn’t say goodbye to you.” Ashley replied even quieter.

“Honey, it’s not like a real goodbye we’re going to see each other in the office first thing Monday morning.”

Ashley looked up at her, tears free flowing now. Spencer cupped her face with her hand using her thumb to wipe away her tears. She was taken off guard when Ashley leaned further into her hand and stared into her eyes. Before she could fathom what was going on Ashley had leaned in and was kissing her. Almost as soon as it had started Ashley had broken the kiss and was bolting for the front door.

Spencer wasn’t sure how she made it to her front door before Ashley, but somehow she had put herself between Ashley and the door.

They both just stood there for what felt like hours, Ashley staring at the floor and Spencer staring at Ashley. Spencer was still trying to wrap her head around everything that had just happened. Ashley had just kissed her, right? Did that mean maybe she wasn’t alone in her feelings or was it just a spur of the moment ‘I don’t want to feel like I’m losing my best friend’ kind of thing? Her head was spinning with all the questions in her mind.

It took a while but Spencer finally found her voice.

“Ashley.” She said so quietly she was afraid the brunette may not have heard her.

Ashley let out the shaky breath she had been holding and finally raised her eyes to Spencer’s.

They just stared at each other in a sort of strange daze both completely confused, both lost and wanting to say what they knew in their hearts was true, but that they we’re to afraid to actually say.

‘Tell her you love her. Tell her you need her. For fucks sake say something.’ Spencer’s inner voice screamed at her.

    “Ashley I-”

“I love you” Ashley sobbed so low Spencer thought she might have miss heard her.

Ashley’s eyes left hers again and she once again stared at the floor.
