It’s never about what I wanted – (Chapter: Its how it started)
Since their father had died, her other brother Clay had his own family to raise, and their Mother was refusing to have anything to do with her disabled son or lesbian daughter, it was left up to Spencer to provide the funds for his constant care. Finding good work was hard, since being a Carlin had become practically a cursed name after her brother’s Olympic fiasco. She only even gotten the job at the advertising agency because Aiden and her had grown up together and he had convinced Ashley to push for her hire.
The day she was finishing moving the last of her belongings from Ashley’s the brunette was nowhere to be found. Spencer found it odd since, although they would see each other in the office on Monday, she figured Ashley would want to say goodbye at least. She tried to call her a few times before using her key to lock up for the last time and heading toward her new home.
It was close to midnight when she finished unpacking most of her things and there was a soft knock on the door. She opened the door to find Ashley looking a little more then worse for the wear. She looked stressed and like she had not slept in a couple of days.
“Jesus Ashley,” she said ushering the girl inside, “you had me worried all day. I woke up this morning and you were gone and then I waited almost all day for you and you never came home.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know you’d be so worried.” She said staring down at the ground like a small child whose parents were lecturing them.
“Of course I was worried Ash. What happened to you?”
Ashley seemed apprehensive to answer the question so Spencer walked her to the couch and sat her down, taking a seat right next to her and waiting patiently for her to speak.
“I couldn’t sleep last night so I got in my car and just started driving. I drove all night and today and when I finally stopped I was outside your building.”
She saw a single tear fall down Ashley’s cheek even though Ashley tried to brush it away. Reaching out Spencer pulled Ashley into her arms, trying the best she could do comfort her.
