I Think I Missed the Point – (Chapter: Sink or Swim…or Wear Floatys?)
I.Am.Freaking.The.Fuck.Out. It’s Saturday morning and I still haven’t thought of where to take Spencer on our " Secret Date". Shocking. It shouldn’t be anywhere lame or predictable. So that takes my house or the movies off the table. Nowhere to romantic either, I don’t want her to know it’s a date till later on. That way she won’t freak out…till later on. God, I’m so nervous. Only Spencer could make me feel stupid while still making me all warm and fuzzy inside. Did I just say warm and fuzzy?!? Gaaaar! I don’t know why it still shocks me when she has this affect on me, but I just can’t get used to it. I’ve never been the sensitive type, psh I’ve never been the type to give a rat’s ass about anyone either, well except Kyle and Aiden. And even their pushing it. I guess that’s what happens when your parents ignore and neglect you as a child. Oh well, Fuck’em. Wait didn’t I see some flyer about a fair in the park. I go over to my backpack and sure enough there’s the flyer in my binder. Huh, it’s in the good part of the city. I guess I don’t have to worry about me and Spencer getting jumped or robbed. That’s a plus. Yea I’ll take her there. Fun, not predictable, has the possiblity of being romantic, but doesn’t shove it down your throat. Perfect!
An hour before I’m suppose to pick her up, I start getting ready. My phone rings. My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and their like its better then yours- "Hey Aid," I’d know his ringtone anywhere. " Are you excited, nervous, pukey?" Pukey? I swear he’s a girl sometimes. " Whatever happened to hi Ash how are you today? Probably smoking hot as usual." Who says sarcasm isn’t polite phone etiquette. He chuckles, " Sorry. Hi Ash and I’m not saying the rest, your ego is already humongous." Is not. " So how you feeling? First date jitters?" How does he always know? " I have no idea what I’m gonna say to her, how I’m gonna act, what I’m gonna do. Maybe I should just cancel," I sigh. " The hell you will Davies your going on this date and your gonna woo her brains out, you got it," Aiden scolds me. He’s such a mama bird…well maybe a mama bird on steroids is more accurate. " Ok, Ok, I’ll go. But if she stomps on my foot and pepper sprays me in the face because I was the worst wooer in the history of wooing, then your taking me to the emergency room musclehead."
Aiden couldn’t stop laughing. Yea it was hard to picture Spencer doing that. Well maybe not the pepper spray part. Hey, a girl’s got to be prepared. " Fine Ashley, but you’ve got to promise me something" " What?" Please don’t say something sappy. " Promise you’ll give love a chance," Aiden said seriously. Yep. Sappy, it never fails. " I promise," I said with my hand up like a boy scout even though he couldn’t see it, "to end this Dr.Phil moment right now." "Wait Ash-" Click. Sometimes I wonder how he never see’s it coming. I look up at the clock as I finish getting dressed. 5:30. Time to sink or swim.
