I Wonder What Would Happen If I…

I don’t know what I did this time, but I definently screwed up." Babe, would you look at me already." I say turning in the highly uncomfortable school bus seat to face her. " No," she pouts still staring hard out the rain streaked window. "Why? What did I do?" I honestly had no clue. She had started acting coolly towards me right after lunch. We usually go somewhere to hang out alone at that hour, but today she insisted we hang out with our shared group of friends. I had no problem with that because we tend to switch it up and hang out with others from time to time, however today was…different. The whole time everyone was talking and joking around she wouldn’t even glance at me let alone talk to me civilly. She still hadn’t answered me, " Baby-" " Oh now I’m your Baby?" She spat at me glaring down at her fingernails now. I couldnt take any more of this, I had to see her amazingly forever warm brown/green eyes, hopefully that would wash away the dread in the pit of my stomach. I tipped her chin up with my index finger to look me in the eyes, but as I did she squeezed her eyelids shut refusing to look at me. " Please Carmen, come on baby, don’t be like that." I gently urged her. I really wished this would be over soon because our bus stop was coming up and I really wanted our alone time on the walk home to be pleasant, not spent fighting. Finally she began opening her eyes and her dark brown eyes connected with mine and I had an overcoming urge to grab her and kiss her right in front of everyone sitting by us, but unfortunately I couldn’t. Carmen’s family was an extremely religious Hispanic Catholic family and she was petrified to come out to them or for them to find out about us, so to the best of their knowledge I was just Carmen’s "blasphamous" openly gay tomboy friend. I don’t see the sin, I’m not hurting anybody, but its their belief. Carmen must have sinced the want in my eyes because she smiled at me mischieviously and started rubbing her finger up and down my arm in a fairly innocent manner, but she intented a totally noninnocent message. " You want to kiss me, don’t you?" She already knew the answer to that question, she just wanted to mess with me. I scooted closer to her pretending I had a secret to tell and whispered in her ear, " That is not fair, you know I’m tryna resist you right now." She in turn moved her lips to my ear and whispered seductively," Who said I life was fair Shane?" Then she quickly turned back out the window with the same glare on her face as before. I tried to recover from the shivers she just sent up my spine and keep from yelling at her for leading me on with her fake friendly banter. The bus stopped to let some more kids off and my friend Kat stops by my seat and said bye, i return her bye, but not before i hear grumbling beside me. " Bye Shane, I’ll see you tommorrow," Carmen mimics in a singsong voice as she glares at Kat’s retreating back," yea I bet you will, skank." Thats when it dawned on me. She was mad at me because of Kat. I recalled talking to Kat alone earlier today coming out of my fifth period class right before lunch. Carmen had always been jealous of my past with Kat, freshmen year Kat was my girlfriend. I told Carmen repeatedly that Kat was just a friend now, that we had broken up on good terms and decided to stay friends, but she wouldn’t believe me. " Babe thats not nice, Kats never done anthing to you," I felt I should try to defend my friend, knowing I might make matters worse. " Fine, but she sure wants to do something to you," Carmen answered me sadly. " Carmen you are the only girl for me, you know that right?" I was being honest I only wanted Carmen, she was all I thought about, all I dreamed of, all I craved, and I’d do anything for her. I loved her. Holy Crap, I LOVED HER!!!! I’d known this for a long time, but it was hard for me to express that to another person. The therapist my mom sent me to said I was " emotionally guarded…whatever. " I know love bunny, but i just…I dont know… have my suspicions of her," she said clasping my hand in between our seated forms so the loving gesture would be hidden from prying eyes. " Caaarrmen, don’t call me Love Bunny here," I cringed looking around hoping no one had heard that, even though I knew they didn’t. Carmen giggled at my reaction, knowing that the pet name she calls me in private embarrasses me in public. " I’m sorry" she says rubbing my knee descreetly, and just like that our fight is over and shes looking at me with love in her eyes once again. We jolt foward slightly as the bus comes to a stop, I notice it’s our stop and smile to my self as Carmen gathers her stuff. I got my wish.

    1. “Love Bunny”?? XD XD Very funny. Very cute. I think this is a good start to a story. I do have one small piece of constructive criticism, though. I think it would be easier for the reader if the story was broken up into smaller paragraphs, you know, like when there’s a change in the speaker or whatever. But that’s pretty much it, not a big deal. I can’t wait to see where you go with this, and I hope you keep writing more stuff if the inspiration hits ya. :) Like STB wrote: always need more Sharmen!
