How To Break A Heart – (Chapter: Step One)

Spencer was close behind, her eyes huge as she looked up in horror at her mother, “You don’t understand- I love her! You can’t do this to me!”

“You don’t know what your saying Spencer, your sick. You don’t want this.” Paula spoke, her hands placed on her daughters shoulders.

Spencer shook her head and pulled away before she turn and ran into the house. Once safely in her room she sunk into her bed, overcome by her own uncontrollable sobs. This was a disaster of an incredible magnitude.

Several hours later, Spencer had cried her self to sleep only to be awoken by her very estranged looking mother, “Spencer?”

The girl rolled over, glaring at her mother with red and wounded eyes. She didn’t speak but only stared, waiting for whatever speech she was sure Paula had been practicing. Judging by the way she was wringing her hands and looking everywhere around the room but at her, it wasn’t going to be good.

Paula inhaled deeply, her eyes cast downwards as she cleared her throat, “I’ve arranged for you to go to a recovery camp for the summer-“

She was interrupted by an incredulous Spencer, whose eyes may have just fallen out of her head, “Recovery camp?! I don’t need to recover from anything, I’m not sick!”

“Your are Spencer, you just don’t realize it because of that girl. These people can help you, okay? You don’t want to live this lifestyle.” The woman preached, her hands clasped together as she fought to remain calm.

“You don’t know what I want! This… This is ridiculous! I won’t go.” The girl spoke, planting her feet firmly on the ground.

“Your going and that is final. When this is all over, you’re going to thank me.” Paula then turned to leave the room, pausing in the doorway, “You leave tomorrow.”

Spencer’s jaw dropped, and before she could object her mother had left the room and slammed to door shut behind her. A moment later the blonde realized Paula had also swiped her cell phone off of her nightstand on her way out. She felt like she wanted to scream, but when her mouth opened she couldn’t even utter a sound.

The next morning Spencer was being loaded into a small bus despite her many objections. She was tempted to try and bolt, but she had nowhere to go and Ashley’s house was much to far to run to. Tears were flooding her face as her brothers watched in stunned silence; their mouths agape as Paula escorted her into the bus marked ‘The Healer’s House’.

    1. I would like to think that if that ever happened to me I would be able to find the extra strength that Paula had to do everything to stop it. Scream and yell while being put on the bus, hell I’d try to smash windows just so they wouldn’t take me. How a mother can do that to their own child is beyond me, one of the major things presented in the bible is choice, we all have choice and how dare anyone come in and tell you who you should and shouldn’t love. People like Paula in this story should really start to think about what it is they are preaching and what it is they are doing because I think if they thought about it long enough they would realise they are two entirely different things! Ok now that I’ve had my little rant I’d like to say what a great writter you are – love the story (not because of the subject matter but the way you present it) the scary thing is that these places exist! Please pms I’d love to see where you take this.
