    Uh-oh spaghettio’s…

    “I don’t know,” I admitted quietly. She clenched and unclenched her fists, looking as though she was about to throw something across the room.

    “You are such a fucking hypocrite! I get my picture taken with another girl, an innocent fucking PICTURE, and you flip out at me! But it’s perfectly okay for you to hook up with someone else because… oh yeah… ‘we were on a break!’” she cried. “So… tell me… did you love her? Do you love her? When we have sex, who do you think about? Me, or her?”

    “Shut up! Just shut the fuck up!” She seemed taken aback by my use of profanity, which is quite rare for me. I guess she realized she had gone too far with her last statement.

    “I have to go.”

    “Ashley, no, wait! I didn’t love her… at least as anything more than a friend. Maybe I thought I might have then… but I was confused and hurt… and drunk… and I know that’s no excuse for what I did, but you have to know that I love you, Ashley. And maybe my pain was clouding my judgment when all of this happened, I don’t know. But I do know that I want you, and I love you. I love you so much, Ashley.” I would repeat those words as much as I needed to in order to get my point across. She stared at me for a few moments, well maybe ‘glared’ was the better word, before turning around again and slamming the door on her way out.

    The next few hours were a complete and total blur. I felt a mixture of intense nausea, dizziness, sadness, and fear that Ashley was possibly out doing something destructive. The cycle was complete once I retched in the bathroom; how could this have happened? How could I have been so stupid not to tell her immediately? How could I have done something like that to her in the first place? My cell phone rang and, without looking at the caller ID, I picked up.

    “Hello?”

    “Spencer?”

    “Yeah.”

    “Hey, it’s Ben,” he said.

    “Hi.”

    “Look, um, Ashley wanted me to call you and let you know she’s here.” In the background, I could hear her drunkenly shouting ‘tell her so she doesn’t freak the fuck out again!’

    “Thanks for calling,” I told him, doing my best to ignore the past statement.

    “No problem.”

    “Can you just… make sure she’s okay tonight?”

    “I will. She’s hurt, you know. But I think deep down she wants to forgive you,” he said.

    “Okay,” I replied warily, unsure how I should respond to that statement. “Can you… can you tell her I love her?”

    “I will. Take care, Spence.”

    “Bye Ben.”

    I hung up and crumpled to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably until I finally asleep. I didn’t even realize I was still in Ashley’s apartment, wearing her clothes.

    17. Oh, by the way, i’m not sure it’s the drama that causes the rating to drop. I get the feeling someone just runs through and throws a few one stars in on everyone’s because if you lurk (ok, ok, i lurk), you sometimes see a whole run of people’s stories go down a star. I guess someone just thinks it’s funny. Your stories are 5 star anyway and that may be a burden you have to live with.
