Good Morning Heartache – (Chapter: But she’s so pretty and I don’t mind)

I didn’t know if I was supposed to feel turned on or nervous. Biting lips was a nervous habit, I knew from own experience, but my memory kept going to Spencer, remembering how she always nibbled at her lip when getting excited. I must admit, that thought didn’t really help, but I chose to go with the first one and felt how a wave of arousal rose in my body.

I blamed it on the alcohol.

I stopped barely inches in front of the girl. Seconds flew by and she was still not looking up.

"You got a lighter?" I asked, trying to sound as smooth as I could without actually scaring her away.

She finally glanced at me. Eyes flickering all over my face, not wanting to find a focus. She finally rested them on my lips.

Reaching for her back pocket of her tight skinny black jeans, she brought up a lighter and shifted her head up, now finally focusing on my eyes. I couldn’t read them at all. I had no idea what so ever what she was feeling. Or thinking.

They seemed so blank while at the same time so full of life. And sadness. Every emotion composed at the same time. This time I was the one that had to break the gaze. It was becoming to strong for me to handle.

"Here" she said, holding out a chromed Zippo lighter towards me. The gracious hoarseness of her beautiful voice was overwhelming me. Again I found myself thinking about Spencer. It felt like everything this girl did mirrored my ex-girlfriend.

I placed a cigarette in my mouth and took the lighter from her hands. I remember them being soft as they carefully stroked against mine, the touch that was followed by the action.

After lighting my smoke I gave the cigarette lighter back while mumbling a silent "thank you" in the middle of my inhale.

We stood in silent for about two minutes. The tension in the air never grew bigger though, the comfortness seemed to be quite a mutual feeling and I was taking in every bit of her face that I could catch during my fast glances at her.

"I’m Ashley by the way." I finally said, reaching out a hand towards her.
