From Spangs to Spashley – (Chapter: Chapter Eighteen)

The doorbell rang. “It has to be the pizza,” Spencer stated as Ashley was flipping through the channels. Ashley had her arm around Spencer’s shoulder.

“It took long enough,” said Tyler.

“Thank God,” said Glen appearing. “I’m starved. You’re paying, right, Spence? I’m flat out broke.”

“Yes, big brother,” Spencer replied annoyed. “I’m paying for the pizza as usual. I’ll go get it.”

“I’ll get the pies for you, babe,” offered Ashley as she got up. Spencer prevented Ashley from going any further and the doorbell rang again. “Dinner’s on me, okay? No questions asked.” Ashley took out her wallet and handed Spencer a twenty dollar bill. Spencer handed Ashley the bill back.

“Nice try,” Spencer said. “I’m not going to be mooching off of you.”

“It technically won’t be mooching since I’m offering,” replied Ashley. “It’s your girlfriend offering to pay a meal for you and your cousin.”

    “It kind is,” Tyler added.

“It’s cool, babe,” Spencer explained. “My treat. You’re my guest anyway so you can sit around and watch television.” Spencer kissed Ashley on her cheek and left the living room.

“I hate it when she does that,” stated Ashley with a chuckle.

“So how long have you two been dating?” asked Tyler with curiosity.

“Almost a month,” Ashley answered simply. “The best almost month in my life.”

“It seems like you’ve dated longer,” pointed out Tyler. “My parents aren’t even like you and Spencer.”

“Nope, seems, but it isn’t,” Ashley said. “What do you mean that our parents aren’t like Spencer and me?”

“Well, they don’t act like they like each other at all,” replied Tyler. “They don’t treat one another well.”

“Oh,” Ashley stated. “I’m sorry to hear that. Why are they still together then?”

    “Church,” pointed out Tyler.

    “Typical,” Ashley said.

“So who liked who longer?” asked Tyler with curiosity.

“You ask a lot of questions,” Ashley mused.

“I’m six years old,” pointed out Tyler. “We tend to do that.”

“With the mind of a sixth or seventh grader at least,” Ashley responded. “Your questions aren’t what typical six years olds ask to begin with.”

“It could be debated,” stated Tyler. “So did you like Spencer or did Spencer like you first?”

“The answer is I liked your cousin longer than she liked me, for ten years actually,” Ashley responded.
