“Your house uh…” Ashley began awkwardly, not really sure how to tell someone their home had just been destroyed, “We saw on the news, your house… Burning…” She spoke quietly, eyes shifting to the dirt because she couldn’t stand to watch his face fall. Slowly the knowledge was passed to the rest of the Carlin’s, and all at once there was a dreadful weight hanging in the air.

“Well… I should go, you all probably want to be alone…” The brunette spoke, anxious to remove herself from this uncomfortable situation.

“No, wait!” Spencer protested immediately, pulling away from her father. Even with her whole family there, she still wanted Ashley around, “Please stay.”

“Spence, I-“ The girl began to protest, but stopped once their eyes met. The girl just looked so damn fragile, she couldn’t stand letting her down, “Fine, I’ll stay.”

Ashley spent the night in their small trailer, sharing the couch bed with Spencer. It was a rather cramped space, but she wasn’t one to complain. Any excuse to be close to the blonde she would happily take advantage of. She found it odd that Spencer’s mom would let them sleep together, seeing as they were both out of the closet and all, but the distraction of their house being wiped off the face of the earth was enough to put a little water on her holy fire.

“Ashley…. Ashley wake up.” Spencer whispered to the girl, tugging on her hand slightly.

“Go away.” The sleepy brunette responded, not bothering to open her eyes. Whatever time it was, she wasn’t ready to be pulled from dreamland quite yet.

“Ash.” Wined the blonde girl, drawing out the nickname as she pulled her hand once more, “Wake up.”

The brunette opened her eyes, her brows furrowing as she blinked at the girl in front of her, “What?” She inquired, voice thick with sleep.

“I want to go back to my house.” Spencer spoke in a determined tone, making it obvious her mind was already set.

“Spence, that’s impossible. They’ve got all the roads blocked off and National Guard guys with guns, not to mention the fire.” Ashley spoke, sitting up and rubbing her face. It was too early for this.
