Fall In Love, Share A Nightmare – (Chapter: I'll Hold You To It)
A few months later, she was doing a gig in New York. I was just starting my freshman year at UCLA and I had made a few friends. They had talked me into going to this place called The Underground. We were sitting in a party room upstairs, having a few drinks and just having a good time when the t.v. that was mounted to the ceiling in the corner of the room suddenly seemed louder than the music that echoed around us from the dance floor below. Maybe it was because I had heard Ashley’s name. My friends and I stopped talking to listen.
They were playing a live video taken from a fan, of Ashley on stage, doped up and looking aweful. She was in the middle of her first number one, I’ll Hold You To It. She danced around stage, her hair sticking to her still beautiful face.
"You told me you’d love me forever, so I put my heart on the line. Never in a million years did I think you’d be mine. I’ve been broken before, my heart can’t take another hit. You told me you’d love me forever, so I’ll hold you to it." she sang, just before she passed out on stage in front of millions of fans. The anchorman then came back on the air.
"We regret to inform the fans of Ahsley Davies yet again of the drug overdose you have just witnessed. She is listed in stable condition at a local New York hospital, but her shows for the rest of the month have been cancelled. Again this is a video recorded by a fan of the concert . . . " his voice trailed off as I turned back toward our table. My hands fumbled for my cell phone as it began ringing.
My legs picked up the pace on their own accord. I didn’t want to think about it anymore. I hit the volume button on my iPod, and let the music drown everything out. I pushed myself harder, running at full speed. The sun still hadn’t come up but from the street lights, I could tell that my feet were taking me to the place I didn’t want to go. As the mansion came into view, I slowed to a brisk walk before completely stopping in front of the iron gates at the end of the driveway.
As I tried to catch my breath, my eyes involuntarily found the second story window to the room of my ex love. What I didn’t expect to see though was her face peering down at me. The place had been locked up for two years now. She hadn’t come home after I told her to never look back. I didn’t expect to see her, but I couldn’t look away.
Before I knew it, she was moving away from her window, almost as if she didn’t een see me standing at the end of her drive. It only took about another minute before the light was turned off and since no other lights in the house came on, I assumed she was finally going to bed. I had to get out of here. I couldn’t stand being this close. I turned around about to make my way back the my place when I heard music in the silence as my iPod switched to a new song. I took the earbuds out of my ears and listened. I could faintly hear the words to "I’ll Hold You To It" coming from her second story window.
