Everything Changes After Spending 7 Months Apart – (Chapter: What a Shame We All Became Such Fragile Broken Things)

Later that night, we are on the phone again as I check my Facebook. I see that I have a new message and announce to Ashley over the phone that it from Aiden. “He said okay” I tell her. Before I have a chance to respond I receive an IM from him.

“Oh, he’s instant messaging me now.” I tell her. I go on relaying messages between them.

“So Ashley says we should all hang out” He says. I still haven’t met him. I knew him back in high school, or knew of him I should say. We shared a class and that was about it. We dated a few of the same girls and ran through the same crowds somehow without ever becoming friends. Whether that was a good or bad thing was still unclear.

“Yeah, we totally should.” I agree, faking the most sincere way I could. Did I mean it? Of course I meant it. I wouldn’t have said it otherwise. Did I really deep down want to get to know him though? No, I don’t think so.

“Well I could go pick up Ashley and we could come hang out with you tonight.” He suggested

“I don’t know. I live pretty far away” I said making up excuses.

We instant messaged for a few more minutes of aimless conversation. He told me he had to get offline and so we exchanged phone numbers.

Immediately he texted me, “Hey, it’s Aiden.”

“Nah really?! I thought it was Obama!” I decided I’m not going to fake a smile for this guy. And I wasn’t going to pretend to like him if I didn’t. No guy Ashley has ever liked has liked me, so I’m not going to waste my time trying.

“So you’re a smartass, huh? Luckily I like that.”  He said. So much for my ‘let’s not be friends’ attitude.

But I still wasn’t ready to give in on it. “Damn straight!” I exclaimed.

“Watch it girl, I’ll have to beat your ass or bite you. In the pictures I’ve seen of you, you look pretty tiny. I can take you.” He pretend threatens.

I immediately counter it. “I may not look like much but I can pack a fucking punch.”

    “Well you’re cute.” He says.

    1. never apologize for long chapters man! anyway, I find this so different to read, seeing as how you shared that it’s going on with you pretty much in present time. makes it seem much more personal that way. there’s no pre-determined destination so to speak, and I find that very intriguing! hoping that for now (as well as in the future) things turn out alright, and like I said I’ll be looking for more.
