Everything Changes After Spending 7 Months Apart – (Chapter: What a Shame We All Became Such Fragile Broken Things)
It had been a few days and things were getting harder. It was increasingly difficult to get in touch with Ashley. She had done what every person never wants to admit to doing: she dropped her phone in the toilet. The phone still worked, so she wasn’t completely unreachable. But her screen no longer worked, so telling her something was no longer as easy as just sending her a text. She could always call me though, considering she had my number memorized. And she called often, averaging somewhere around ten times a day.
I couldn’t help but crave for her to have a working phone, but snail mail just is not quick enough. I missed the ability to just text her about some random event. Yeah, sure I could call her and tell her. But a phone call just seems so pointless when you’re just sharing a small random event. So I avoided those, but tried to remember them for the times that we did talk. I could never remember.
You got it you got it bad when you’re on the phone, hang up, then you call right back…
My phone was singing from next to my head as my eyes tried to adjust to what little bit of light was coming in through my windows.
I reached for it and answered on the last ring. “Muh hello” I answered trying not to sound too horribly tired.
“Oh no, I’m sorry!” Ashley sang across the phone. “Go back to sleep baby and call me when you wake up okay?”
I fought the heavy feelings of my eyelids. “Nah, I’m good. I needed to get up anyway, so what’s up?” I asked.
She told me the story of her phone screen working, then not working, then working and not working again. Then it was favor time. “Can you get on Facebook and send Aiden a message for me? Just tell him that I don’t have a phone and that if he wants to get in touch with me that he is going to need to call me because I can’t call him.”
“Sure” I say as I reach for my laptop. I send out the message as I continue talking with Ashley. We then decide to file the claim on her phone’s insurance policy so that her new phone could be on its way very soon.

Love the story keep up the good work!
never apologize for long chapters man! anyway, I find this so different to read, seeing as how you shared that it’s going on with you pretty much in present time. makes it seem much more personal that way. there’s no pre-determined destination so to speak, and I find that very intriguing! hoping that for now (as well as in the future) things turn out alright, and like I said I’ll be looking for more.
