“Hey, what’s up?” I don’t know the voice. It is a guy though. I am beyond confused. Ashley is excited but I am nothing past unaware.

“I’m drunk as shit.” I say easily.

“Yeah I was drunk the other night. Fun times” He says. That’s when it clicks. I remember Jason saying that exact phrase in the instant message window.

“Oh hey” I say excitedly. I had never spoken to him on the phone before. So I didn’t know his voice. Past my excitement, there were nerves.

Ashley begins talking. “Wrap the blanket around you and come on.” I do as she say and go into the living room.

We put Jason on speakerphone and carry on conversation as we normally would. He hardly gets the chance to talk. When he does have the chance to make a flirtatious comment, he says it right as my mother is walking into the room. Ashley frantically takes him off of speakerphone and continues talking to him as I deal with mother.

I can’t get up though. Not only am I too drunk to walk due to the third drink I began working on, but also I am almost naked from the waist down under the blanket.

“Are you girls having fun?” My mother asks.

I look at her and answer. “We are having so much fun!” I announce drunkenly.

“Well I would assume so.” Mom says. “You girls got halfway through one drink and had to run off to have sex.”

I’m too drunk to even deny it. Ashley is laughing her ass off, apologizing to Jason for everything he has to hear. “Technically,” I announce to my mother. “I was halfway through my second one.”

We all laugh. I knew that once I sobered up, I would regret that open statement.

The night carries on and eventually, near five in the morning it is time for bed. We don’t cuddle then. We are too drunk. When you reach a certain point of toxicity, your desire to be close to someone goes away.
