Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 22: Killin’ Time, Killin’ Nerves.)

"She’s in my room getting ready," the younger girl was keeping it short and trying to avoid any unneeded spats. Thank God Ohio was too far away for any sane person to want to drive. That long in a cramped car with her mother…Spencer might’ve had to shoot herself.

"Well, tell her to hurry or something. We’re on a tight schedule." And with that, Paula Carlin was out of the room and off to bother someone else.

Spencer rolled her eyes and sighed. She stood and ran a hand through her hair, untangling some of the knots–she hadn’t brushed through her hair, yet. The blonde skipped up the stairs and made a beeline for her bathroom.

Ashley was already in there brushing her teeth. Still hardly ready to leave at all. All she had done since getting up was throw on some jeans and put her hair up into a messy ponytail. She was still basically shirtless, seeing as how she was sporting only a sports bra.

The taller girl smiled inwardly and joined Ashley in the bathroom, closing the door behind her. The brunette acknowledged her with a smile through the foam of her toothpaste, and without a word, Spencer walked behind the other girl, wrapped her arms around her waist, and rested her head on her shoulder.

The older girl’s brow furrowed, "What’s up?" she asked. Her voice was muffled due to the toothbrush hanging from her mouth.

Spencer inhaled deeply through her nose. "I like the way you smell," she said somewhat half there.

Ashley laughed lightly and shifted out of the other’s girl’s hold. She leaned over the sink and spat the toothpaste out and rinsed. Turning around she smirked and said, "Yeah, I know that Axe is for guys, but I just couldn’t resist."

The blonde let out a short laugh and shook her head.

    "Hey, are you okay, Spence?"

    "Yeah, why?"

Ashley shrugged, "I dunno, you just seem kinda down."

The taller girl let out a sigh, "I’m just kinda stressed about this trip."

"It’ll be fine," the brunette assured. "I’ll be a perfect little angel. Hell, I’ll even curtsey in your mother’s presence. After all, she is the top authority," she added sarcastically.

"Shut up," Spencer punched the other girl lightly in the shoulder with a smirk.
