Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 22: Killin’ Time, Killin’ Nerves.)

The blonde looked after her, in amusement, shaking her head. She didn’t know if Ashley was excited about the trip or not, and Spencer was nervous about it, herself. It was the first time that Ashley would be out of California…and Ohio wasn’t exactly right next door. She was just afraid that her girlfriend would completely hate where she used to live. Her quiet little town wasn’t anything like what the brunette had grown accustomed to.

Spencer also wasn’t sure who she’d run into while they were there. Since moving to L.A. she’d hardly kept in touch with many of her old friends—something she only felt a slight guilt over. How were they? Did they miss her? Would she been seen as different to them, now? What would they do if they knew she was…

She shook the thought from her mind. Too much thinking. The chances were slim that they’d run into anyone, anyway. ‘Least that’s what Spencer was hoping for.

“Spencer.” The stern voice of Paula Carlin made her come completely to her senses and turn around to look at her mother.

“What?” she asked timidly. She didn’t really enjoy conversing with her mother, as of late. It always ended with Paula questioning Ashley—even if it was only subtle, and/or the older blonde saying that one of her church friends had a cute son. ‘Sorry, Mom, not so interested. The thing between their legs is a turn off,’ she wished to reply. But all she had the courage to muster was ‘Sorry, Mom…I want to focus on my school studies.’ How lame.

“Where’s Ashley?” Paula asked. Seemingly not caring. And she didn’t. She cared about leaving already; not about making sure that girl was ready to roll…let alone having her tag along. Talk about awful. Ugh…just totally ick.

And Spencer could sense that. Lovely vacation they were about to have. She was just overjoyed that her aunt Cecile was on her father’s side of their family. Paula’s side was scarily just like the older blonde. Conservative, sometimes harsh, even a little cold. It was always amusing to visit that side of the family. It was like they never really approved of Paula being with Arthur. He might as well have been a "damn hippie." Spencer figured that Paula may have been taking out her frustrations with her own parents out on the younger blonde. Wanting Spencer to do exactly what she wanted and nothing else. Well, sorry, Mom…that just wasn’t about to happen.
