DAWN: The unauthorized new finale to the Twilight series
CHAPTER 17:
DEATH
It is a morbid thought, but every single second we get closer to dying. With everyday our body decays even more, sending us to the grave slowly. Life is like a scary shaft that is taking you slowly six feet under.
The music. The music was beautiful. It was my lullaby. My lullaby played for me on the other side. I wanted to follow it, but couldn’t. I felt limp and strange. I surrendered to simply lay and wait for whatever was to come.
How long had I been in this hospital bed? My eyes slowly scanned around the room, the Cullens hovering over me with looks of worry, and terror. Edward’s face made me want to live. I couldn’t leave him in this way. Not after all we’d been through. His face almost ripped my heart out. The pain even more so than when Jacob left.
Jacob.
Edward’s eyes glazed with hate. I knew who he hated. Himself.
“I never should have left your side,” He had barely managed to whisper.
His eyes burned with the passion to make me live. He held my hand, refusing to leave while Carlisle and the other doctors pumped my stomach. The pain. The pain of the overdose still echoed through me.
Jacob.
How long had I laid here? Thinking of death, and Edward, and Jacob? My mind was exhausted from the overload and I slept too much, being awakened every hour or so to make sure I was still living.
Where had Edward gone now? He had just stood up and left. Was it too much for him? It was funny. I thought Edward was made of some powerful rock or metal. He was invincible to pain. And here, the weakest person he had ever known, could cause him hurt worse than death.
I looked over. My bracelet sat on the table, the wolf and the heart seeming to stare right at me. I picked it up, Esme standing close incase I needed help. I felt the wolf. Whittled by Jacob himself. The diamond heart was clean cut and shimmering. I put it on, and let it dangle around my wrist, shaking it to make it jingle. I smiled at it, thinking of Jacob.
