Coming for You – (Chapter: Do You Remember?)

Once I had finished looking over the pictures from our wedding, I flipped the page and gasped. There was Spencer in the hospital bed holding our daughter, Jamie Davies. I never thought I’d meet a girl as beautiful as Spencer until I held our baby daughter in my arms for the first time. She had dark brown hair and Spencer’s bright blue eyes.

We had Jamie about two years after we got married. Kristen and Aiden came up with the idea to use Aiden as the donor, so that’s exactly what we did. And about a year after Jamie was born, I gave birth to a son. We named him Clay after Spencer’s dead brother and he is the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. He has my charm and Spencer’s kindness, so he’s basically going to grow up to be quite the ladies man.

I smile at the pictures of Spencer, Me, Clay, and Jamie at the beach playing in the sand. Spencer and Clay had made this giant work of art sand castle, while Jamie and I had a mound with a twig sticking out. Well, Spencer’s definitely the artistic one in the family.

As I was looking through more pictures of my family, I hear the handle to the door turn and in walk my wife and kids.

    Spencer: Hey Baby

    Ashley: Hello love

Spencer walks over the couch and plopps down next to me. The kids, who are now eight and seven run over and give me a big hug and kiss before skipping off to the play room.

Ashley: So I see you finally finished the scrap book.

    Spencer: And???

Ashley: And I absolutely love it!

    That gets her to smile.

    Spencer: Happy anniversary baby.

She pecks my lips and pulls away. I then lay back on the couch and spread my legs for her to lie between. Spencer quickly obliges and settles on top of me and I wrap my arms around her. We just lay there silently as I stroke her hair and think about our life together.

Ashley: How do you think our life would have been different if we had never met each other?

Spencer looks up into my eyes and smiles.

Spencer: Honestly I think we were put on this earth to be together Ash, so we would have met one way or another.

    Ashley: Yeah you’re right.

    Spencer: Hey Ash?

    Ashley: Yeah Spence?

Spencer: Did I ever thank you for never giving up on me?

Ashley: Yeah, I think so. Why?

Spencer: I don’t know, you came back for me even when I was so horrible to you. And I think that’s what made me realize I loved you all those years ago.

Ashley: Don’t worry bout it Spence. The past is the past and you’re here with me now and forever.

I stare intensely in her eyes and she kisses me. Nothing needy, just loving.

Ashley: Thanks for the scrap book babe, but I gotta ask. What’s with all the empty pages? Why didn’t you just buy a smaller book?

Spencer: Ash we’re only in our early thirties, there’s still plenty of pages to fill.

I kiss the top of her forehead.

Ashley: And how I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life filling those pages with you.
