Circles and Circles 2 (Part one of… some) – (Chapter: Sickness and light.)
The alarm sounded like it was awakening a fire department. Spencer reached out one hand and slammed it down, missing and flipping the clock onto the floor where it kept beeping in the most annoyingly insistent fashion. Groaning, she reached down and flipped it off.
She flopped back on to the bed, head pounding and throat red raw, wishing she didn’t have to get up. Burying her head in the pillow she sighed, and closed her eyes, aching for ten more minutes sleep before work. She could hear Ashley’s soft sleeping breath in the bed next to her and smiled. It still made her smile after all this time.
Spencer’s eyes flew open. The bed next to her was empty, which couldn’t have been a good sign because Ashley practically never got up before her. She wondered why her sleep button hadn’t activated and rolled over. Her eyes felt scratchy, and her throat burned. The pit of her stomach churned and her head was awash with pain. There was no doubting it, she was sick. Moaning a little, and feeling more than a bit sorry for herself, she managed to haul herself to her elbows, and then sit up. The room spun precariously, and she steadied herself, eventually swinging her feet over the side of the bed and considering standing up. A sharp pain in her stomach made her gasp.
“I don’t think that’s the best idea you’ve ever had” she heard Ashley drawl from the doorway. She looked up to find the woman she loved walking towards her, hands folded across her chest. “Back in bed with you”, Ashley pushed her gently backwards on the bed and swung her legs up, tucking the blankets around her warmly and sitting on the edge. Spencer spent a few moments reveling in the soft touch of the brunette’s hands on her forehead, and then mumbled:
“I gotta get up.” It was followed by a cough. “I have work to do.”
“Since when was your job infecting the populace?” Ashley asked teasingly. “You’re sick and you’re staying home today.”
“I can’t” wailed Spencer, “I have meetings I have to go to, and projects whose deadlines are getting way to close”, looking miserable she tried to haul herself up, but weakness won and she flopped back down.

Wow, what an awesome unexpected surprise!! I love that you keep coming back to Circles. Probably ’cause we’re all begging and pleading and whining for you to….but if it’s working, hey, keep on rolling!! And the lovey-dovey Spashley? So great!!!! I look forward to your writing all the time, and thanks a billion for Circles and more Circles and hopefully even more Circles….=D
Oh dear. My appendix burst while I was in the hospital waiting room back in 1997. Worst pain EVER. I think i threw up all over the nurses desk. Anyways…your fic made me want to give Spencer a hug. :)
awesome to see you’ve written more of this! I like their chemistry – nice to have drama surrounding them rather than coming between them. I hope you post more soon. And congrats on surviving your ludicrously long shift :-)

Silly Duffer! Man, I haven’t heard that in so so SO long. It’s something I heard a lot when I was little. Love this story you cool cat. I’m Australian too, where in particular are you currently “living it up”?Ps I’ve always thought of Silly Duffer as an Australian thing. Do other people use it?

Silly duffer?! I’ve NEVER heard that before. Definitely an Australian thing. :) And might I add YAAAY! to your continuing this story – even for just a three part! Yours and bannerman’s stories are getting so numerous I can barely keep track! At least I know there’ll always be SOMETHING good happening. Sorry, no cheeky comments today. It’s Friday, I’m exhausted and thoroughly looking forward to hitting up the local dive bar in a few hours. ::sigh:: Oh and I was walking to work this morning and a cyclist passed me and dinged their bell and it made me think of you. And Jesus. Isn’t that strange? I will now forever associate the sound of bike bells with an Australian I’ve never met and the son of God. :)
