Check Please – (Chapter: WHOA! Wasn’t expecting that!!! HAHAHA)
“Did she witness it?” The doctor asked.
“Um, no. We were at home.” I lied again. She nodded her head solemnly.
“You can go back to the waiting room now. We will come get you when Ashley is stable.” The words made me shake. I rushed to the waiting room and paced back and forth there for what felt like hours on end. I didn’t look at anybody and I didn’t look at anything. I just paced with my head down and my feet moving quicker than my mind. I tried to decode things. The blood, the words, the random shock and seizure. I couldn’t place it.
“Spencer!?!” came a shocked and questioning voice from my right. “What are you doing here?” She asked.
“Mom!” I said and leaped into her arms as I did all the time as a child. It wasn’t until then that I spilled my tears. I told her all about Ashley and all about what had happened, minus the details I still couldn’t pinpoint as to what they meant. My mother didn’t seem to take a quick liking to Ashley. She hadn’t even met her yet, but she had a habit of judging everyone too quickly.
“Had she done any drugs?” She asked me accusingly.
“No, mom, she doesn’t do that kind of stuff. She is my girlfriend; can you at least be nice to her?” She had never been nice to any of my girlfriends before. The doctor from earlier came from the hall and motioned towards me. I followed her down a long, dim lit hall and listened to her explaining things.
“Miss Davies is in a stable condition now, but we would like to keep her here for one or two more nights just in case. This way we can monitor her closely. But all in all I think she should be fine.” We walked into her room. Ashley just lay on the bed looking weak and helpless. Her eyes were shut solid and the only part of her that moved was her chest, which of course had wires coming out of it.
“She looks so…helpless” I stated aloud.
“It’s okay she’s just asleep, she needs her rest. If she happens to wake up though, don’t expect her to make much sense in anything she says. She is on a morphine drip to null some of the pain I like to call the after shock effect.”
