“Hey, Aiden,” I said as I poked him in the back.  “Would you mind getting on the lift with Jordan and Mike?  I’ll take the next one.”

Aiden looked back and me, confused.  “Hmm, I guess.  Why?”

I nodded my head to point out the girl behind me.  Thankfully Aiden was discrete when he glanced behind me.  “Niiice.  Beautiful eyes.  Go for it,” Aiden whispered back as he nudged me playfully. 

“Thanks,” I yelled as Aiden scooted up to take the next lift. 

“See you at the top!”

I maneuvered my own snowboard up to the red line before the chairlift, making room for the girl behind me.  The chair came and we both sat down.  The girl was gorgeous, and a total baby dyke – that was, if she knew herself.  She had the most gorgeous blue eyes and little wisps of blonde hair peaking out from underneath her helmet. 

“Hey,” she said, cautiously, with a small nod of her head. 

Shit, she must have caught me staring. 

“Do we know each other?”  She added.

“Uh, no, sorry…I, uh…you remind me of someone.  I, hmm, I didn’t mean to stare.”  Fuck, I bet she thinks I’m an idiot.  “I’m, uh, I’m Ashley.  Ash.”

“Hi, Ash.  I’m Spencer,” she said as she reached out to shake my hand. 

Too bad we both had gloves on.  But now that we had introduced ourselves, I was able to look at her a bit longer without it being weird.  She totally had on boys’ snowboarding pants.  Sooo cute. 

“So, hm, Spence, you here with friends?  Family?  You, hm, have you been, uh, snowboarding before?”  I asked and immediately felt like hitting myself.  Why do I keep stuttering?  I’ve never sounded this stupid in front of a girl before. 

“Spence?” She looked at me confused.

“Oh, sorry.  Just kinda rolled off my tongue.”  I can’t believe I just said that.

Oh, no, it’s okay.  I…uh, actually kinda like it.”  She smiled at me and I think I melted just a little.  “Yeah, so I’m here with the fam.  I’ve skied since I was, like, old enough to walk.  But decided I really wanted to learn how to snowboard this year.  I took the half-day lesson this morning, but I guess I’m still a bit unsteady on the board, otherwise you wouldn’t have said anything, huh?”  Spencer said.  And she did her little head-nod thing again.  Did I mention how cute she is?
