Who has summoned her?  Who has reached out to her?  What is this danger she is about to face?  Who are the protectors?

Rose has just made contact with someone…something from elsewhere.  Perhaps from this Earth.  Perhaps, as crazy as it sounds to her, from another.

Dolores Nogales

She is on her way to El Paso in her state issued S.U.V.  She is Ranger Dolores Nogales of the Texas Ranger Division.  A situation has developed to a fever pitch and it is one that is absent of the superheroes that Ranger Nogales hears or reads about in the news.  Leaving her office in Austin, she is on her way to the genesis of the issue, El Paso.  It is a city that finds itself in a struggle between rival gangs.

One group is called the Jacks, named after a famous Texas Ranger from the early 20th Century, Jack Woods.  Ranger Nogales has always questioned the Jacks paying homage to a man whom if he were still alive would want to bring to justice himself.  The Jacks specialize in drug trafficking and hunting anyone they can conceivably declare an “illegal.”  They consider themselves the “last great protectors of America.”

Their rivals are known as Los Panchos.  Like the Jacks, Los Panchos specialize in drug trafficking as well providing a headache for the Jacks in form of aiding said “illegals” all while keeping their on the ultimate mission, “recuperar la region de Tejas por Mexico,” or “take back the region of Texas for Mexico.”

Ranger Nogales is going in alone.  She does not mind the challenge.

Lorraine Lewis

Somewhere deep in the Atlantic, Lorraine Lewis is busy exploring the ocean.  This underwater world in her own vessel, the Hardy Challenger.  She had named it after a colleague and mentor, Brad Hardy who had since passed from this Earth.  While her friend and colleague in exploration, Betty Drake was more interested in seeing the stars, Lorraine found herself still fascinated with the inner space of Earth.

Lorraine looks out at the fascinating sea creatures.  She sees what appears to be some of them retreating.  Somewhere between North America and Europe, she becomes curious as to why they are retreating.  Are they retreating from her and her vessel?  And what are those images up ahead?
