The Language of Love

Chapter 1

"Hey sweetie" Shane said as she swept Angelica up into her arms, Dana freed the infant and smiled. Lara grinned at the site of Shane making baby noises and goofy faces at the child.

"Finally someone that speaks Shane’s language" Dana joked and Shane made a funny face. On some level Shane did speak the language of Baby Angelica, she still young at heart and still trying to learn from life’s expieriences. Shane smiled inward at the thought and she felt as she felt a hand rub her back.

"Hi Angelica" Carmen held out her hands for the always inviting Angelica as she sat down next to Shane and once again the baby had been bounced around again to yet another person. It was start to feel like a petting zoo for Angelica only this time she was the animal. "Guys guess what…" Carmen left the question just hanging there causing everyone to become a little anxious.

"What" everyone screamed at her at once and the baby jumped, "Sorry" chimed the group in unison. Carmen took a deep breath before she began to speak again, she was trying her hardest to calm her nerves, the news she had received was exciting.

"I’ve been offered a job djing for a radio station" she squeaked and Dana and Lara hummed their congratulations.

"Baby that’s great…why didn’t you tell me" Shane gave Carmen a quick peck on the lips.

"Well I just found out…that call we got on the way here" Carmen filled in the missing pieces of her story. "Oh my god I have to get my shit together before Friday…its my first day".

"What radio station is it we’re should all listen" Lara asked and Carmen cleared her throat because she knew the answer would lead to an uncomfortable silence at the table.

"Yeah we’re totally going listen" Shane agreed offering her support to her girlfriend.

"Its KCRW…I’m Alice’s new dj for The Chart" yep there it was that unsettling silence and that thick slice of tension. Since the break up Alice and Dana had hardly been in the same room together just the mention of the other’s name brought up issues neither wanted to deal with at this time. Dana cast her eyes upon the floor at the mere mention of the blonde’s name, she couldn’t believe how much it still hurt.
