Previously…
Tina: “Well….yeah, I’ve always wanted to have a baby and now….with you, it just seems right. What are you thinking?
Bette: (leaning in to kiss tina)”I am so in love with you. I would love for you to carry my child.”
Bette then tenderly places a kiss on Tina’s lips. The two lover’s share a long, deep embrace before falling asleep in each other’s arms.
Chapter 2:
After a stressful day at work, Bette comes home to find dinner waiting for her.
Bette: “Did you get off early today?”
Tina: “Yeah, I took the afternoon off so I could cook dinner. We’re always so busy we never get to share dinner at home anymore”
Bette: (kisses tina)”Well, that was sweet of you to think of us….Ugh! my day has been so *****…I swear if I have to argue with one more artist about the placement of their piece in the gallery, I’m going to tell them to keep their ***** and I’ll just paint my own damn exhibit.”
Tina: “Was it that bad?”
Bette: “You have no idea.”
Tina: “I’m sorry it’s so hard on you, but I’m sure it will get better once you’ve settled in a little more.”
Bette:(pouting)”Maybe”
Bette: “So speaking of work I was thinking, I guess it’s a good thing I took this job at the CAC because if we’re going to have a baby, then you’ll need to quit work for a while…you do realize that, don’t you?”
Tina: “Yeah, I know but I’m ready to do this so work will just have to wait.”
Later that evening, Bette and Tina are getting ready for bed…
Tina: “So how are we going to do this? Are we going to use a donor or do you think we should do it the old fashioned way?”
Bette: (with a look of disgust)”Donor, definitely….I couldn’t stand the thoughts of a man’s hands all over you….or another woman’s for that matter.”
Tina:(laughing)”Don’t worry I don’t want to be with anyone else, but you.”
Tina: “Well, what characteristics would you like for the donor to have?”
Bette: “Um I don’t know, I guess, artistic, charming, and……oooh, I know, why don’t we use an African-American donor so the child represents each of us?”
Tina: (frowning)”I don’t think so.”

I agree, Tina is being selfish. Great chapter.
Tina is not right in here, poor Bette!
Tina: “This baby will be “ours” but I think I reserve this right as the birthmother….I’m the one sacrificing my body to have “our” child, that doesn’t sound selfish to me. The race of the baby should be my decision….having this baby is going to change my life forever.” –
Ouch!! If I were Bette, I would have been crushed by this…clearly Tina doesn’t feel Bette has any right to be a part of the decision making process involved in the birth of THEIR child. Nor does she care about how having this baby is going to affect Bette’s life. In fact, I can’t see where she has thought about Bette being a part of this, at all. If Bette were a man, would Tina refuse to have his child because of his race? This was a very thought provoking chapter…thanks!!
WOW got to say I agree totaly with seahurst.
Tina is being very harsh. And by saying she doesn’t want a bi-racial child she is rejecting Bette’s heritage. Very thought provoking. Good chapter…post soon.
