    DAY 1

It was tough to tell, but through the haze of drugs, exhaustion and lingering dreams Dana could have sworn that someone was singing. She didn’t really try to analyze this strange notion for a minute or two, trying to give her brain some time to come out of the fog it seemed to be ensconced in. This didn’t make the singing stop, however, so she figured it must really be happening. She had no idea why anyone would be singing to her before she was even awake, but then again, the beeping she heard didn’t make much sense to her either, and it certainly hadn’t stopped.

Before too long, she was cognizant enough to recognize the soft voice as Alice’s, but that didn’t mean any of it made any more sense. She wanted to wake up, roll over and ask Alice just why the fuck she was singing to her, but for some unexplained and perplexing reason her eyelids didn’t want to cooperate. She didn’t feel bad, exactly, but sleeping didn’t seem to have done her much good since it was next to impossible to move.

After a few minutes of an intense inner struggle, she managed to open her eyes a little…and everything came rushing back. She was in the hospital, the beeping was a heart monitor, and she couldn’t fucking move because she was an idiot and had gotten herself sick. And Alice was definitely singing to her. She couldn’t quite make out the lyrics since Alice was obviously trying not to wake her up, but it was kinda nice nevertheless. She shifted and managed to turn her head in Alice’s direction, and the singing stopped instantly.

"Hey," Alice said softly. "I didn’t mean to wake you up."

It took a minute, but Dana was able to talk…just a little more weakly than she normally did. "You didn’t," she replied.

"Good." Alice beamed down at her, and Dana could see the exhaustion in her eyes as Alice leaned in to kiss her forehead. At the last second, Dana moved her chin up spontaneously so that their lips met instead. There was no response for a second, and then Alice seemed to shrug and started kissing her in earnest, giggling as the heart monitor’s rate started to increase. She pulled away from Dana and grinned. "You better watch it. People get kicked out for that sort of thing, you know."

    1. Muted, that truly was amazing. I can’t even imagine how difficult it was to write, but I hope knowing how much everyone thoroughly enjoyed it made it worth it. Your writing was just excellent and you’ve completely motivated me to go write the next chapter of my own story, although, you’ve set the bar so incredibly high with the past few chapters you’ve written. PS-I loved the whole iPod idea, that was adorable. And the whole Helena/Dana conversation was terrific. Okay, I’m gonna stop adorning you with compliments and just end this with please update soon!

    2. Oh my God I had my hand over my mouth for a whole page. You continue to captivate me and this story is one of the most realistic and emotional pieces of writing I have ever read. Thank you so much for writing it. Can’t wait to read your next as usual. xx

    3. Great job! I was holding my breath for a while, and damn it I got a little teary too. You understand these characters so well that this is the reality of how it should have played out. I can’t wait for the next chapter!

    4. This was REALLY good, and not just because Alice fell to the ground in relief – rather than the grief. I love how you are developing the characters – especially Helena, and how true to character the dialogue is between Shane, Dana and Alice. I know I’ll have to read it again when I get back home, and am at my own computer.

    5. Well im running out of superlatives! It’s an amazing story and a stroke of genius to write from Dana’s point of view. Eagerly anticipating your next as always. :)
