    Window of Opportunity ch. 46

I sent Bette a text letting her know that I was on my way, grabbed the pictures and headed out. I had never been to the hotel they were staying at but had admired its beauty many times in passing. Upon pulling up, I handed my keys to the valet and pocketed my ticket. I grabbed my purse and pictures, took a deep breath to try to center myself and headed into the lobby. I looked around not sure how much they had changed and immediately recognized them both.  In 10 years, if anything, they looked younger than last time I saw them.

I walked toward them as they walked toward me and all of us were unsure what to do next.

“Hi Mom, Daddy.” Not so original but at least my ability to talk was still intact.

    “Tina, you look wonderful.”

“Hi Christina. Daddy’s right. You do look wonderful. I know I have no right and it’s a lot to ask but may I hug you?”

I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to hug her. I needed to feel that connection but I wasn’t sure if I could without breaking down. My hesitation must have had her thinking that she had crossed that imaginary line and I didn’t want things to go badly so soon. I could do this.

“After all this time, I would like that Mom.”

She pulled me into a hug and I was right. I broke down as did she. We held on to one another as if our lives depended on that contact and I think it did in part. The years apart during that moment didn’t matter. The hurt and pain that she was in part responsible for was not something I was focusing on. My mother and father were in the same town, the same time zone, the same space as I was and I was not going to pass up the opportunity to touch them. I needed that contact to continue telling myself that it was true. It was totally real what was happening. My imagination was not just ruling my life and wishful thinking was actually reality. After a long hug with so many tears, Mom pulled away and Daddy took her place.

    1. I love this Tina, she is not leaving anything to chance. She almost said My way or the hiway. Where Angie and Bette are concern, she would fight a big poler bear. thanks

    2. Bless her – Tina is so pulled between wanting her parents back in her life, and the fear of being hurt again. This story has me so pulled in. I’ll admit something I rarely speak of: in my past, this was exactly the point I was at, and then when faced with the reality of a real life lesbian daughter and her partner, they turned and walked away for the second time. Until Tina’s parents meet and truly accept Bette and Angie, it’s all just words.

    3. I’m still here, just having a few computer problems, I can’t say that you haven’t toped one chapter after the last, this story is amazing, well though out with every detail and more. Great job NAG. Thank you, Md

    4. Yeah great exploration of what so many of us go through. My mom is/was so possessive of my biological son that she rejected my partner and our son…and there it stands…the fact that we separated allows him to get on with his life without her disapproval…I miss him but his mom’s new partner didn’t want them to have anything to do with me; then she died…what a bloody mess!!! He is 13 and a red head. I wait for the day when I get to see him altho we keep in contact by emails and phone. He lives hundreds of miles away across a stretch of water that requires a plane or ferry. I’m predicting that one day he will be with me again. So I relate to Tina & Bette so much and your story is right on. PPS

    5. This story is so real and I love it! and Tina not wanting to make any decisions as far as Angelica is concerned before Bette meets the parents is so smart seeings her judgement might be clouded. Now get Tina home and wake up Bette! PPS

    6. “When I first met her, she was important to me in ways I didn’t understand. As time passed, she became my reason to go to sleep because I knew I would see her again when I woke. I never knew that love could feel so right or could complete me in so many ways but hers has. We’ve had ups and downs but through it all, I’m led back to her.”…yeah

    7. You are truly a remarkable writer. You take the ordinary and make it extraordinary. I so love this story…I hope we get another post tomorrow…I really missed you last week.

    8. I enjoy how your writing gives us the deeper meaning behind their thoughts and feelings. NAG, you know I am a fan of this story but you had me laughing out loud on the train this morning… “I goggled her and she has been a force to be reckoned with in the art world.” Dad said to me. Is Goggled a new search engine we should be made aware of??? :)

    9. This is an extraordinary story and the work you have done and are dong with it is amazing. The love Tina feels for her parents even with the absence of them in hr life has been a testament of their love for her and hers for thm early in her life. She contnued to be a very loving person depsite what had happened between them. She had been well grounded and carries that foundation to this day and that is what makes her the loving and lovely person that she is to everyone, she has that lovng understanding that allows her to be patient and tolerant of so much. I’ll stop now becaus eI could go on and on, I love your Tina and the sweet and loving person that you show her to be. Love the story. PPS

    10. I love this story. I’m glad TK’s parents are really being nice and sweet. I hope all goes well with the parents and Bette’s meeting will go well.

    11. As I had expected, Tina’s reunion with her estranged parents was tearful and emotional. Very touching and skillfully portrayed, newagegirl… Loved the childhood memories that the sniff of the aftershave of Tina’s dad unlocked. I think it’s a Proustian involuntary memory episode. This story is turning out to be a profound, lingering look on love, family, framily and the significance of memories, the remembrance of things past in rebuilding their loves and present lives. And if I haven’t told you lately, I simply love this story and the way you’re telling it, newagegirl! Thank you so much for attempting to shed light on Tina’s pre-Bette life. Thank you for trying to fill in the blanks, the gaping holes in the Tina narrative in TLW. I hope the next few chapters will give us more vivid images from Tina’s past because I’m really curious what she was like when she was growing up. Was she a tomboy or a cheerleader in high school? Has she always had a green thumb? How did she develop her nurturing side? You know, stuff like that. :> The William Parsons twist is interesting. Angie’s simply adorable and I LOL at the aftereffects of their all-night, ’til crack of dawn marathon on Bette. Will she be able to keep up with her younger fiancee or will she have to rely on James and bottomless coffee to save her work days? :> Can’t wait how Tina will recount the visit to Bette and the meet-the-parents lunch. Thak you, newagegirl, and PPS!!! :>
