“Bette, Tina’s on line two,” James poked his head in the door to offer her the update.

Bette held an index finger up to indicate he should wait for a moment while she finished.

“I have to take another important call. I’ll put you on hold and James will get the details,” she said into the receiver before pausing. “Great, we’ll talk soon.”

She pressed the button to put the caller on hold.

“Dates of the visit and flight information for Isabel Michener,” Bette said. “Arrange a rental car and make sure there’s a hotel room booked for her.”

“She’s interviewing for Jodi’s position?” James clarified.

“The artist in residence position, yes,” Bette replied.

“Right, I’ll take care of it,” James said. He gestured toward the phone and put up two fingers to remind Bette of the call. “Tina.”

“Hi Tee,” Bette said, picking up the phone again.

“Hey,” Tina said. “You must be busy. I’m sorry if I’m interrupting.”

“A call from you is never an interruption,” Bette replied. “Just a reminder of what’s important to me.”

    “Long day?” Tina questioned.

“I’m being romantic!” Bette replied. “You have become quite a cynic recently.”

“Yes, it was romantic. I’m sorry,” Tina said. “I still feel like I’m keeping my guard up. Like what we’ve rediscovered with each other is too good to be true.”

“I think this retreat is going to be good for us,” Bette said. “I’m especially happy they have a ‘no cell phones’ rule.”

“I’m glad we’re not being too deceptive about our relationship,” Tina replied. “I mean, we are together.”

“But you still think we’re being somewhat deceptive?” Bette asked.

“It was only for the benefit of our daughter,” Tina justified the white lie that seemingly started it all.

“I think that lie was a thinly veiled reference to what we both really wanted back,” Bette replied. “We just needed a nudge in the right direction.”

“And the momentum keeps carrying us forward,” Tina laughed.

The silence allowed them to think about just how far they had progressed in such a short period of time.

“Anyway, the reason I’m calling,” Tina continued. “I thought the three of us could go down to the beach for a picnic tonight instead of supper at home. I’ll take care of packing everything up.”

    1. Awww…Porter Sighting Anniversary, Love it! I am glad that both Bette and Tina are making conscious choices to make each other and Angie the #1 priority. Can’t wait for the next chapter!

    2. I have just spent a lazy Saturday catching up on some of my favorite FF stories and writers. JKS you are amazing. Thank you for this story. Your writing as always is exquisite one day I hope to write as well as you. Now back to read the extra scenes I missed.

    3. Awwww, I love this family. There is something special about them. Even with all the commotion of season 3 and 4 there still was something special about them. A picnic on the beach and a sleep over sounds like a lot of fun.

    4. Wow, so Tina had actually saw Bette across a crowded room, and apparently the butterflies went off in the stomach, so when she actually met her she planned the leaving of the earring, in your story timeline, lovely. I love it. August is the month that my Mother(Who passes this past April), mine and my little brother was born. Now I know there was another important event that occurred that month.

    5. I hope you aren’t ending this anytime soon–I’m really enjoying this story. Thanks for taking the time to write. PS On the pervy side, I hope we’re there for the anniversary celebration too :)

    6. Aww. The anniversary of the first sighting? Utterly romantic. It was an interesting flow.. tentative from both parties, trying to figure out how to progress in the relationship, Tina seeming a little scared to repeat past mistakes… but yet an underlying connection that if they let flow makes all those things disappear. If you remember the first time you saw someone from afar there must be something deep there even if you don’t know it at the time. PPS.

    7. awwwwwwwwww very very nice, JKS… you had me with that stupid grin through the entire chapter… i loved the thingie Tina did, kissing Bette’s hand… anyway, please keep’em coming! P.s.: Bring on the retreat!

    8. How sweet…I remember the first time I that I saw my partner…she doestn’t remember me much because she was blinded by her contacts and couldn’t see a damn thing..thanks for this story JKS and you post whenever you can we are always here waiting.

    9. that was just beautiful. i cant forget either when i first saw my partner. i flew to sf, got off the plane and had no clear idea of what she looked like. she saw me and grabbed ahold of me, then i got to see her. love at first sight. write when you can. thx for the memory.

    10. AAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW SO incredibly cute and romantic! Youve just made a big smile appear on my face… Althought that could also be caused by me being so in love… *pondering face* well anyway ;) Thanks for a perfect story to add to a perfect day!HUGS

    11. Sweet! I have been a ‘slient’ reader of yours & frankly I only read your fanfics… U’re really gifted! I wish u’re 1 of the writers for season 6… haha Thanks for taking the time to write.
