Chapter 17
Reigning in her emotions, Bette tries to clear her head so she can put all this in perspective. Wiping the trace of any tears from her face, Bette puts her personal feelings aside for the moment. She couldn’t dwell on them and deal with this current situation.
Straightening up her blouse, Bette looks Shane’s way. “You are right. Yes … You’re right.” Bette stated more for herself, using the words as an impromptu pep talk. “You are right Shane so let’s go find out why she’s here.”
Shane falls in behind Bette while she leads the way to her office. When they get to James’ desk, Shane reaches out and pulls on Bette’s arm to slow her down. Still worried about Bette’s state of mind, “Bette whatever you do remember Angelica doesn’t know who you are. You’ve got to tread lightly or you’ll scare her away. And I … I think we all know what a tragedy that might be.”
Bette looks down at Shane’s hand on her arm. Her first reaction is to be angry.
“Please Bette.” Shane adds seeing Bette’s look.
Bette softens, Shane is right. The girl in her office is as innocent of the drama of her and Tina’s life. Innocent as a baby lamb. She needed to step gingerly. “Got it.”
Shane and Bette enter Bette’s office, James is still there talking to Angelica who is seated on the couch. James gets up to go but lingers by the door waiting to see what’s going to happen..
Bette goes behind her desk and pulls out her chair, turning back to the door she pointedly dismisses James “We got this Thanks James.”
“Oh … sure.” James says disappointed seeing Bette take her sear. He quietly exits the door.
“So Angelica, right?” Bette asks looking into Angelica’s face. Angelica just nods.
Bette can see she has Angelica’s attention, “Why don’t we start with you telling me about yourself.”
Angelica squirms a little uncomfortable in her seat. Shane can see her starting to get scared. When Angelica talks she mumbling “I don’t know why I’m really here. Maybe I shouldn’t be.”
Shane steps in to calm her down. In a calming voice. “It OK Angelica this is a temporary thing and it’s all up to you if you want it or not.”

Why is Bette never up front in these situations? Like, are you Tina Kennard’s daughter? I used to know your mom…
Hello Jwet, I must say that I have been enjoying this story immensely, you really have captured the true spirit of Bette… allowing her flaws and strengths to be shown in equal measure. This (re)union with Angelica is something that she really needed, the suffering she has gone through. To be united with the family that she always wanted is a healing force. It’s just up to Tina to ease the pain Bette is sure to feel when their eventually meeting and confrontation happens. I’m one of those sappy readers (and writers) who hopes that these two will unite no matter the circumstances and I patiently await the events you have planned for this story unfold. Your writing is brilliant and your emotional depths are uncanny please keep up the amazing work. PPS, Sincerely, JC
Jwet, I think this is so great!!! I am glad Bette did not the fact that she knows Angie’s mother. Angie would have ran off. I like how B&A are getting to know each other. Thank you PPVS

Just now I was picturing Forrest Gump and his son fishing with their heads tilted to the left. lol Bette and Angie, feet less than shoulder-width apart, left hand cupping the chin, right hand supporting left elbow, head tilted slightly to the left, admiring a huge painting. That right there is art.
Gee, when I said that Tina had some ‘splaining to do, I didn’t think it would all be to the detective. Little lady, huh? Well, LAPD does seem to have some antiquated ideas about policing in a number of ways. Tina better keep her temper with the detective or she may be in for a beating. Back to the Planet, such a small world.

OMG, the planet…are the other girls are hanging out there still? could be a little reunion…and btw, if angie’s reaction to bette will be as you described, then maybe she indeed can bring them back together somehow
well, since you’re home, you won’t be laughing among a crowd of strangers! Happy Sunday to you; hope it continues to rain where you are so we get another post today?????? I am enjoying the wonderful well known Hawaiian weather and a day of football! Very happy my favorite teams are winning (Denver and Green Bay) and reading your story. So, Bette is going to the Planet for lunch with Angelica….a “closet” introduction to the family before Tina arrives to “out” the entire story? You contine to build up the expectation in your stories and you have not let us down yet (unlike the series)…Thank you for continued sharing of your story. Another terrific chapter! I truly believe that there is a force in this world that pulls people toward each other when they are meant to be in each other’s lives. Angelica is the child that Bette needed and wanted when she chose an artist as the donor. And let’s not forget that Angelica has found a role model that no one else can offer: she so desperately needs to come to understand what it means to be bi-racial in this society; only Bette can offer this to her. Tina was naive and foolish to think that Angelica wouldn’t need that in her life. It has always seemed to me that Tina didn’t fully understand how Bette’s life was formed by being bi-racial: to her, Bette was Bette. And that is a wonderful thing but most people in this world do not think that way. As Angelica is coming to learn, sadly. Angelica needs Bette to be her parent as much as Bette needs her to be her daughter. It would of course be wonderful if that is what leads Bete and Tina back to each other as partners. With every chapter, I’m loving this story more and more. One thing has me wondering though…has Angie even stopped to think about Tina and the fact she must know that she’s missing by now. She must know Tina’s going crazy with worry. Please don’t let her trash Tina when talking to Bette and let Bette put herself in Tina’s shoes. PPS….I can’t wait! :)

Wow, Angelica is so much like her other mother. No wonder Tina was struggling with being the single mom. Angelica probably reminded her sooo much of Bette. Tina’s job required so much of her time that she missed a lot of Angelica’s growing up. To bad both Bette and Tina have missed so much of their little girl becoming the young woman that she is today.
Such a story! Just keep up the work. I can actually feel Bette starting to panic…when T gets there.
Excellent as always, really enjoyed how it flowed from Tina’s frustration to Bette and Angelica getting to know one another. Hmm, is Shane off tracking down Tina’s cell phone number…. ; )
Love the story Jwet. Hope Shane has already made it to the Planet and warned everyone that Angelica is in town. Also hope Shane has tried to find Tina or will try to and let her know that Angelica is safe and sound. Please don’t let anyone spill the beans before Tina and Bette can tell her who she really is and why they know one another. If she finds all this out from someone else she will run again by not understanding the past and she does need to know that Bette is Mama also. I hope Bette will ask her what she is doing in town w/o her mother. PPS
Oh my Dear! I have butterflies just waiting for when Tina sees Bette and Angelica together. I can’t believe how torturous it must be for Bette, to have her daughter at her fingertips and yet be too afraid to allow those emotions through so that she doesn’t scare her off. Brilliant! WOW…what an amazing story. You capture Bette and Angelica perfectly as mother and daughter. It is as if they have known one another all their lives even though they have just met. Brava!
I can’t add too much. It’s all been said. This is terrific storytelling. Angie needs Bette as does Tina. This wouldn’t have happened if they were together. PPS.
Of course, the planet where better to have a the “meet up” between mom and other mom. You are writing such a great meeting between Bette and mini Bette I mean Angelica, can’t wait to see the fire works.

Jwet, I’m running out of superlatives. The mother/daughter connection is so deep, like looking in a mirror and can’t remain secret. Shane is a perceptive and generous friend and rescuer. Everyone involved will have to deal with the consequences. Take care of yourself and PPS.

I’m glad that I made ya blush =) Anyways, I love the lil’ bonding that Angelica and Bette are having right now with each other. I can’t wait for them to show up at the Planet, and hopefully, Kit was see her niece for the first time. Tina…Poor Tina, she’s still on the search for her child, but the bumbling officer is not really being helpful. I love the little lady part. Anyways, can’t wait for the next post!!!
More inside the characters… I like it when it is deep and intense. When is the meeting between Tina and Bette gonna take place? I can see the future struggles arriving very very fast !!! I’m afraid that you’ll let Angelica take Bette’s side when she’ll find out the truth… Don’t leave Tina alone !!!! (Whistler was great !)

Hey there JWet, Good to see that Bette was able to move beyond her fears and frustrations to a place wher she could simply enjoy the company of her daugther. Finding out the shared love of art was masteful. It has untied these souls forever. Getting to know Angelica has to be the prome motive right now along with her reasons for abandoning her mother and coming to LA on her own. I really could sense Tina’s anxixty at the Police lack of forward movement. They are just treating it as an unhappy child running away from her mom. Now that Tina knows where Angelica last was which show lead to a long overdue emotional closure with Bette. I’m not saying that Tina views this as the end merely a time to deal with their history and put it in its place. Now id the time for Bette and Tina to unite in giveing Angelica the best parenting she can have. A balanced approach to life and love would be wonderful. Getting the benefit from all of her extended family would give Angelica such an extensive view on the world and her purpose in it. I do hope that she can bring Bette and Tina back together because I sense that they each are only half living. They, each, have switched off part of their heart and soul. Firstly to prevent further heartache and hurt and secondly because things were left in the air between them. Can’t wait to see where you lead me to. Just know that the carpet ride will be so worth it. As for your comments, am happy to open up my view point and stimulate discussion and ideas for the future of this fabulous fan fiction. I am loving this story. Love the way you’ve written Bette and Angelica and am anxious to see your take on Tina’s reaction to seeing their connection. I’m hoping that B&T are able to put Angelica first upon seeing each other again instead of dwelling on what could have or should have been done differently. I have a feeling that it won’t be as simple as Tina walking into the Planet and embracing everyone in a group hug…. tease that you are!! Thanks, Jwet.
