What Grief Has Made, Parts Eighteen-Twenty
“Like what?” Marina asked edgily.
“I don’t know. Anything. Anything about her life. Her past. What drugs she uses.
“Alice, I don’t know if….” Tina said doubtfully.
“Look, the doc knows Shane uses something. She asked me if it was cocaine. I didn’t…I didn’t say yes or no. I don’t think she would use it against Shane. I think she only wants to help. Anything we might know, or remember, we need to tell her.”
“Well, what DO we know?”
“Maybe it’s not what you know or I know. Maybe it’s all in pieces, what each of us knows,” Marina said, more to herself than the others.
Alice’s eyes brightened. “Yeah! Maybe you’re right. If we all get together…all of us…compare notes…maybe something will come to us.”
“Let’s meet at The Planet. We can have the back room. That way, no one will interrupt,” Marina offered.
“Good,” Tina agreed. “Alice, you need to call Dana.”
Alice’s head snapped up, a worried expression flickered across her face. “I…I don’t know…um, I’m not sure I have my ….”
Marina gave Alice a quizzical look. “Ok I’ll call her.”
“What about….?
“What about what?”
“Tonya?
“NO!” Marina and Tina said at once, looked at each other and burst out laughing. “No, no Tonya. She…”
“She’s not one of us,” Alice finished.
“No, she’s not. She doesn’t even know Shane.”
“Ok, so how do we get Dana away from her?”
“With the truth,” Tina said firmly. “Dana has her faults but if she knows Shane is in trouble, she’ll come.”
“Good!” Marina stood up. “I’ll go get Bette and….”
Tina put her hand on Marina’s arm. “No.” She said softly. “I’ll do it.”
“Tina, you don’t have to….”
“Yes,” Tina said quietly, “I do.”
Alice and Marina looked at each other.
“Marina, go call Dana. Alice, go get the car. It’s in ER visitor’s parking. Bette and I will meet you outside.”
Tina shooed her reluctant friends toward the exit while she turned and headed for the elevator, stopping to read the directory on the wall to find out where the cafeteria was. She didn’t want to do this, didn’t want to face Bette. The pain was raw, and the anger…she was afraid it would seep out of her. But this meeting couldn’t be held without her. Whatever was between them had to be set aside for now, for Shane.

Thanks for posting…I see you have another one after this…I like this story.
Love this. I believe its better the second time around. Will Tina get over her hurt and anger or will she let Bette destroy herself with grief. thanks
