What Exactly is Autonomy? Chapter 2

    “Were not ready for this.”

“But, we will be.” Henry responded with a hint of worry in his voice. “Look Tina, I know it seems like we are moving fast…but, I also know that fast or slow, you and I are good together.”

Letting out a deep breath, Tina shook her head as if that would magically clear her thoughts. “I was so determined to be with a man again……its like I didnt see anything or anyone else around me. All I saw was you and Mickey in the pool, and you smiled at me, and I thought, now theres a man who could provide you with the easy, happy family you want.” Scoffing in disbelief, she was embarrassed by her seduction of this man. “How could I have made that assessment just by looking at you?”

“Because there was an instant connection Tina. We both felt it. And you found me Tina. Im the man you were looking for. Dont think about it, just go with it.”

Smiling, Tina reached over and gently cupped Henrys cheek with the palm of her hand. She wanted to laugh at his suggestion. Dont think about it! All of a sudden, its all she could think about. Letting her hand fall, she stared down at the dark brown comforter Henry had on his king sized bed, allowing her eyes to blur as she once again became lost in thought.

And there is was…suddenly, for the first time in months, Tinas thoughts crystalized in her head. Good God, how long had she had been acting like a small child who was afraid of the dark? How long had she had been so fearful? Was it….could it be? Oh God….yes…..since the moment Bette first kissed her, and turned her world upside down. And then, that first and only visit with her parents to tell them about meeting the love of her life. Their reaction just reenforced the fear that she had successfully hidden from everyone, including herself.

As the realization hit her, Tina felt horrible, and gasped as a huge wave of guilt wash over her. Covering her face, she mumbled, “oh God, poor Bette.” The woman she loved with every part of her being, never had a chance. And, because Tina was never conscious of the deep seeded fear, neither did Helena. Well, Helena didnt stand a chance anyway because of Bette…but still.

    1. AMEN!!!! Sea good luck tomorrow …it may take a bit to get back in the swing of “work” hopefully it is something you enjoy doing… this will make it easier. We will be here waiting patiently ok probably not so patiently for the next chapter. Take care.

    2. Good Luck on your new job.If you like what you are going to do,you will love it We will wait for you to write like next weekend. one a week is better than none. take care get plenty of rest thanks

    3. That’s right! Go and get your woman, Tina…I mean, you’ll probably have to grovel (which I’ll enjoy) but go and get her. Excellent chapter Sea! I also start a new job in nine hours so no more late night fanfic reading…I’ll just have to read it on their dime. Best of luck on the new job, Sea!

    4. Well I think Henry can forget about the sex tonight. :} But seriously, these were two really good chapters. I think the dialog is strong and compelling and you tell the story well through their words. From what little we know of Henry, the voice and words you give him sound just right to me. Carry on!

    5. Good luck on the new job, I think like somebody said that she should be on her own too get her self together, while Her and Bette become friends before they get back together. Great chapter as always

    6. Thank you for putting a compassionate face on what is a very troubling situation. No one is the winner here. I hope they both come out of this okay and that Tina finds her way eventually back to Bette. … Yes, another shameless Tibetter…Thanks!

    7. So Tina’s journey to really find herself has begun. I hope she continues to listen to her real inner voice, move past the fear and be whole. Good luck at work today!

    8. Good luck with the job…hope you find time to post! I like where you are going with this, but I hope that Tina is able to resolve issues with her parents before she works it out with Bette.

    9. Yeah, yeah! (i shout , as i jump up and down my room)This is sooo good, i love it. I didn’t comment the first time as i was too busy, but now i had to. I wish i could put the feelings into words like you! I’ll wait for your next post, even when it takes a week or more.

    10. I hope that your job went well. You will make it, you seem very strong (heck, and I never even met you). I am really getting into this story. For once Tina is starting to use her brain and not run from one person to another. She knows in her heart that it is Bette that she belongs with. What she does next only you know, but I am praying that she sits down and has that long awaited talk with Bette. I will always hold out for those two to return as a family.

    11. I hope your first day back at work went well. I agree with a lot of the others that Tina needs to be alone for a while until she can get herself together. As I am a Tibette fan and I do hope they can get back together at some point in time. Seahurst, you are a fantastic writer. As I have said before and will continue to say I will always read anything you write.

    12. Seahurst, hope your first day at work after the hiatus went well. Best of luck with the new job! Now back to the comments. I’m loving this story! There is hope yet for Tina and us Tibetters. Perhaps being with Henry this little while will truely wakes Tina up and makes her think long and hard about who she’s really meant to be with and who really makes her happy. It’s your story, Sea and even though I hope that you will bring Bette and Tina back together in the end, I will gladly read what you offer. Time for Tina to do some grovelling!! I’m not averse to a little drama in Tina¡¦s quest to get Bette back, so, bring it on!

    13. Great stroy! I think this is what was missing in S3! Understanding Tina’s thougtht process. Tina should not have move back in so quickly with Bette until she had some alone time.

    14. so T’s been fearful since she met Bette and gave away the power she had as a straight woman in a het world…and she was ok for as long as she could rely on Bette..then Bette threw her a curve and T lost her safe place ??? okay?? have I got it, cuz that’s how I’ve seen it…anyway give Henry the heave-ho, sort your shyt T and go home to your womyn, your wife…

    15. I’m clapping my hands together!! Hee Hee, Henry, step aside, Tina wants to crawl on her hands and knees slowly back to her soul mate, hear that matey… soul mate, lots of work and bumpy roads, but at least the cogs are turning in the pretty little head of hers…

    16. Just read both brilliant chapters….Think Tina maybe needs a `timeout` to gater her thoughts…and make her way back to Bette…Its not Henrys fault..he`s a man!lol…it just is!

    17. “Just look at your group of friends, there isn’t one happy couple among them…well except for Kit and Angus…and they are straight!” How much i hate to admit it, if i was Henry (or any straight guy who came into this group of friends) i would have felt the same way about gay people.. I mean, if you’ve never came close to them, and this group of people is all the lesbians you know, my god!!! What has IC done ;-) Luckely i know better hearing from people on the discussionbord….

    18. Great! Hopefully Tina is beginning to understand what “autonomy” really means. It’s time for her to take some alone time and figure what she really wants in life hopefully? Seahurst, I am enjoying reading this story. Please post soon.

    19. How did I miss the first chapter of what I know already is going to be an awesome story? I firgured it wouldn’t take long for Henry to push Tina into something she wasn’t ready for. I’m glad to see you have her voicing her feelings instead of the passive aggressive stuff we see on tv. Looking for to the next one and good luck witht the new job.

    20. tina get ready to crawl… beg… whatever… we all know that bette still loves her no matter… but i hope she mkaes her sweat for a whild… good luck on the new job…

    21. Seahurst, thanks for the quick update!!! Congratulations on your new job, I hope it is just what you were looking for and leaves you with enough time and brain cells to write lots more stories. I like this one but don’t rush it…..tina has some MAJOR groveling to do!

    22. Excellent chapter. I love where this story is going. It is helping to stave off the despair caused by S3. Keep it up and thanks for posting.

    23. I think in Tina’s subconscious she also has some ‘straight’ thoughts and criterion. She never loved someone freely. So she has no place to be mad at Henry. He is just a mirror to her own mind sometimes. I hope she could realise that and free her heart so that she could really find a way to Bette and live with her happily.

    24. Alright not that’s what I’m talking about a Tina that makes sense and I can actually relate too. Wow in two chapters you were able to make sense of the disaster that was S3. Way to go. Thanks Seahurst

    25. Honda90 is right–Tina needs to be single for a while and figure out who she is ad what she wants. Running back to Bette at this point is not fair to Bette or to herself.

    26. Seahurst, your story is just great and thank you so much for letting Tina see the greatest mistake she was about to make and please let Bette take her back. Thanks for the post.

    27. Ah…its so good to see Tina finally coming out of whatever haze she was in and acknowledging her true self and where she belongs…. with Bette. Now, she beginning to see the mess she made of so many lives. It will be interesting to see how others respond to her now, especially if she’s ready to truly face her world again. Good luck with the new job Seahurst. Happy working and writing.

    28. first, all the best in your new job! Re the story, thank god! Sea, i think you (with skipton, jwet)will be my salvation till S4. C.A.N.N.O.T put up with the ridiculous B/T storyline in S3. Pls post soon, Thank you again.

    29. Tina is so confused, but she’s finally seeing hints of a way back home. Sea…congratulations on the new job. Take care and thanks for the update.

    30. You see IC, that’s what you get when stupid straight people watch you’re 3rd season. They can’t think straight anymore and see us as weirdo’s…

    31. she is going to leave him for herself, for her autonomy, she does really need to get a grip on who she is outside of anyone or anything…My only problem is that now she has brought a child into this world and they don’t deserve to have to struggle with “you” struggling to find yourself…Yup, tina needs to be single, at least for now.

    32. you are on a roll Seahurst = don’t lety work put a stop to that — take care and don’t do too much ! thank you for two great chapters — it warms all of us to see you back — take care A x

    33. Hey I haven’t read this one – to sad and depressing. I just wanted to say that I hope you will continue with “Would you like to dance” and “Put it up to your ear”…..two wonderful and amazing stories. Take care and good luck with your work :o))

    34. This is a scenario I’d like to see in Ep. 1 of Season 4!!! I hope your TiBette heart will bring them back together. Thanks Sea. Wish you well in your new job!

    35. Great Job SEA! You truly are awesome girl at bringing the thoughts of Tina around in the right direction. I hope tina fights very hard to get Bette back. thank you.
