Wednesday Breakfast at the Planet (Time of Day 16)
“Hey. Over here.” Shane motioned for Tina to come join the table.
As Tina took her seat, Alice looked up from her crossword. “Where’s my earth daughter?”
“Bette has her for this week.”
Alice gave a pout, and returned to the paper. “What’s a five letter word for boring?”
A few words flashed through Tina’s thoughts, but she decided that suggesting ‘Henry’ would be just wrong, and ‘Bette’ would be wrong, also, plus it would give her friends an incorrect impression of how she viewed her ex. “Did you guys order?”
“Not yet. We thought Helena might make it, also.” Shane indicated the empty seat between Tina and Alice.
Although she wasn’t sure she wanted to say it, “Where’s Jenny?” It wouldn’t make sense to pretend like she didn’t know the woman. “Or Max?” Then again, perhaps just asking about all of Shane’s roommates would make things easier.
“Max is still in San Francisco. Jenny thinks no one likes her.”
“Jenny should know we don’t like her.”
“Alice,” Shane warned.
“Shane, please let Jenny know she’s always welcome.” Tina almost regretted the words, but she knew that she’d regret more if she hurt Shane.
“I know. It’s just…weird.”
“If she had come up with something original to write about,” Alice mumbled.
Ignoring Alice, Tina patted Shane’s arm. Shane responded to the gesture with a smile.
“No Paige this morning?”
“She’s working.” Shane started tapping the menu against the table. “But Friday night, if you guys are around, we’re going out dancing; sort of an anniversary thing.”
“Shane,” Tina looked at her friend. “You’ll want to celebrate; you don’t want us tagging along.”
“Yeah she does,” Alice countered. “What could be more fun than us?”
“We would like to see you guys. Everyone. Whoever can make it.”
“Make it where?”
Tina looked over her shoulder, surprised to see Bette standing there. Angelica was balanced on her hip, but starting to lean forward towards Tina.
“You want to say good morning to your Momma T?” Bette asked, passing over the child.
Tina took her daughter, giving a welcoming hug and kiss. As the child settled in her lap, Bette set a bag of cereal and a small container of milk in front of Tina. “Have you ordered yet?”

Bette’s kinda cute when she’s feeling uncertain. :) And LMAO@5-letter word for boring. I immediately thought “Bette.” *ducks* Hey, it has 5 letters! Henry’s too boring to be thought of. =p
I love the dialog in your stories…very real! I hope you continue and know that I’ll be reading! Thanks!
pseud…Why is this Yale graduate always so confused? She sounds like another Yalie who is always confused by his confusion results in lost American soldiers.Kick Jodi to the curb! Some folks spell Jodi like Jodie. Now, that would be a 5 letter word for boring. PPS.
well said there azmama, spoken like a true tibetter:-)
Like everyone else my 5 letter word for boring was also Henry and Jodie. Please let Bette understand where her heart belongs and make an effort to get back with Tina or is that asking too much too soon. Enjoying this ever so much. Thanks.
Tina can’t play with Bette like that. I’ll let you know? Boy, that’s cold Tina. Of course she didn’t like how Bette got excited about talking about Jodi.Tina just needs to lay her cards on the table. And Bette needs to buy herself a clue. Alice is always a pleasure. Shane’s still with Paige, huh? Cool. Good update. Thanks.
Is this an indication that Bette really is not okay with Tina moving on with another woman? Maybe she is not totally happy with Jodie. I can only wish….
oh these two will drive me to drink. one toe in then hoping on out. scaredy cats. thanks.
Come on Bette just dump Jodi and come back to Tina!
If Bette has to figure this stuff out on her own, why didn’t Tina let her figure out dealing with Jodi on her own? I agree with Bette having to make her own realization if she and Tina are to get back together again, eventually. But I still don’t get why Tina just didn’t take a pass when it came to advice in that arena. Or does Tina need to deal with her passive/agressive issues just like Bette needs to look at her need for control?
Please continue….couldn’t agree more with Gumby about the excellent dialogue. Just love the group rapport that you have created. Thanks.
Excellent as always, pseud, thanks.
That’s for the post, I always enjoy group banter and Jenny disses and Bette showing a twinge or two of feeling for Tina ain’t bad either. : )
Bette seemed a wee bit Jealous.of Tina going out. She knows how to keep her home. Tell each other how they feel. thanks
yeah great story
