    View from a Tangent…chapter 44

The world seemed to have stopped. To be honest Bette hadnt thought about Tinas parents for a while now, and here they were.right HERE. Shane disappeared into one of the aisles but Bette just stood to the spot. Richard Kennard turned around.and Bette nimbly slipped into the aisle where Shane was eyeing the hotdogs. Quickly grabbing her arm Bette dragged Shane around the corner. Looking out from there she saw the Kennards getting ready to leavethank god. Shane demanded to know what was going on and Bette quietly explained the situation. .now well just wait right here till that filthy ***** leavesahhthere they go. Bette turned around and was met by an incredulous look from Shane. She seemed to think Bette was acting like a little child and said soBette walked past her and they didnt speak for a few minutes. Then while Bette piled in hotdogs and buns Shane asked Bette if she was going to tell Tina her parents were here. Bette paused for a secondwas she going to tell T? Bette really didnt want to tell her because Tina would then want to find them and some ugly stuff would ensue. Nono she shouldnt tell T, it would be better if she didnt. Shane looked at her like she was mad…Bette you HAVE to tell Tinatheyre her parents! But Bette already made up her mind and said firmly that no she as not going to tell. It was better for the both of them, and Bette didnt feel like experiencing the wrath of Richard Kennard again. Shaking her head Shane went back to choosing which cookies would be better…chocolate or oatmeal? Impatient Bette took the chocolatefor Christ sakes who wants oatmealSoon they filled the basket and went to the checkout. Shane went quiet again, giving Bette significant looks that she tried to ignore. However it kept nabbing her in the head, should she tell T? Then Bette had a brilliant idea. She would tell Tina after they left the town to go on that tour of the museum in the next townwhich was some miles awaythey were heading south now. Yes that would be betterBette made up her mind and paid for the food. She knew Shane didnt have a lot and didnt mind paying this time. As they were making their way to meet Alice and Tina Shane was getting impatientBette insisted on being very cautious. The last thing she needed was to see the Kennards face to face. Finally though they met them at some caf three blocks down.
