“Fuck!” Shane gasped, and tried to look seriously into Alice’s eyes. “Weren’t you supposed to meet that KCRW chick at like one today?”

Alice looked back at her, frowning as if Shane had just asked her if she was from Mars. “No, that’s not today… Fuck yes, it’s today! What time is it?” She looked at the alarm clock and almost pushed Shane out of the bed when she tried to sit up and Shane couldn’t help but laugh at the way she panicked. “She’s gonna kill me!”

“No, she’s not.”

“Yes, she is! I can’t believe you remembered! But hey…” Alice stopped for a second while she was trying to get dressed to look at Shane who was still lying naked on her bed. ‘Now this is just cruel,’ she told God inside her head. “How did you even know?”

“You told me,” Shane said simply with a shrug. “I think it was the same day that you told me about Bette wanting to have her old boss killed, or something like that.”

Alice’s brows furrowed for a moment, then she tilted her head to the side and smiled at the younger woman. “You actually listen to everything I say?”

“Yup,” Shane said simply and put her head down on one of the pillows, wishing Alice didn’t have to leave, but knowing she had to if she wanted to keep her job. “Stop staring at me, if you hurry up you won’t be that late. I’ll just stop by at home while you’re out and I’ll be here again before you get back, okay?”

“You better be.” Alice placed a kiss on her lips and then hurried out the door, smiling from ear to ear.

Shane was in her car on her way home when the thoughts started streaming through her mind. What was it that they were doing? Was it right? Shane had just been dumped by Carmen and Alice had only recently broken up with Dana. Were they ready to get into something this soon?

It didn’t matter how much she loved Alice. How much she’d always loved her. She was scared and insecure and she didn’t know what to think. Could she even be in a relationship? She thought that was what she wanted. Alice was everything she’d ever wanted, personified, but could she be the person Alice wanted and needed? Alice had told her that she felt the exact same way that she did, but still Shane didn’t know if she could count on that.
