She sat in her room in the corner chair, the smoke from her cigarette curling soft tendrils around her head. This week had been *****, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The Chinese takeout Jenny brought home made her sick, two girls at Lather quit at one of the worst times and she had to cover their shifts, her stupid ***** Jeep cost way much more money than she had. Her mind raced in a thousand different directions but always seem to end up at the same thing. Carmen. A smile small spread across her face at the thought of the Latin beauty. The night in the truck was amazing, she had felt more alive than she had in years. Her thoughts ricocheted around her brain, images of Carmens face, hands, smile clouded her mind until it was one big blur.

“Shane?”

Shane snapped out of her daze, startled, having not heard Jenny come into the room. Jenny took a few steps closer to her.

“Are you okay?”

Shane sat up in the chair.

“I’m fine.”

Jenny knelt at Shanes feet and rested her hands lightly on Shanes thigh.

“You don’t look fine.” Jenny insisted. Shane shook her head slightly.

“I’m just thinking.”

“About what?”

“Nothing in particular.”

Jenny smiled her sweet elfish smile.

“About Carmen?”

Shane looked down at Jenny amazed that this woman who she had only know for little more than a year already knew her so well. Shane raked her fingers through her short locks of hair.

“I don’t know man, it’s just…I don’t know.”

Jenny rested her chin on Shanes knee and looked up at her with wide eyes.

“Do you like her?”

Fiddling with the loose piece of string on her shirt, Shane murmured, “Yes.”

“Well then why don’t you go out with her?”

“Because I don’t want to ‘go out’ with anyone.”

“Why?”

“Because.”

“That’s not a reason, Shane.” Jenny replied, sternness in her voice.

“It’s good enough one for me.”

“Is it?”

Shane looked up into Jennys awaiting eyes, her face a canvas of different emotions all pulling and tugging her in different directions. Seeing the confusion in Shanes eyes Jenny softly rubbed Shanes cheek with the back of her hand.

“You’re an amazing woman. You’ve got so much heart, why are you being selfish with it? Why won’t you share it?”
