    Twisted Triangles Ch. 43

Chapter 43  A few years before Bette’s move to L.A.

“I’m going to marry that girl.” Eric declared to Bette as they sat on the edge of his bed.

“What?! Munchie, you can’t be serious. You two haven’t been together that long and I don’t know, you’re both so young.” Bette countered sitting up and staring wide eyed at her twin brother.

“Big sis, please. Do not put all of your commitment phobic crap on me. I love her, so much.

Bette sighs while facing away from him. She knows that there is no talking her brother out of going through with getting married. Once he had a thought in his head, he would go through with it full speed. She was the same way. But this felt like a mistake to her and she hoped that he would see that before they exchanged vows. She looked around his room. His small apartment would soon be cluttered with stuff that he hated. Things that his wife loved. Bette knew that when he married, a part of him would be left behind. All of the records would be packed away. Any posters that he cherished would be given away. Sad. It was a shame because Bette knew her brother. Every woman he ever loved, he wholeheartedly, often ignoring warning signs.

“Ok. Well good luck.” was all she could manage to say.

Eric also knew Bette well enough to know that she didn’t approve. It was more than the age of the future Mr. and Mrs. Porter, Bette felt something else that she wasn’t saying. As frustrating as it was not to have his sister’s blessing, he wanted to move ahead and marry the girl of his dreams. “Thanks, I guess. Besides I already asked her and she said yes.”

“No kidding!” Bette said turning back to look at her brother. He wasn’t kidding.

“No Bette. Melinda’s the one. I just know it.”

Eric passed the news to his father who was over the moon that Eric was becoming the responsible man that he wanted him to be. Melinda came from a well off family and would not be overly dependent on Eric or his money. He had hoped that Bette would soon follow suit, but she seemed intent on keeping lady friends around, leaving no time for the right man to court her. In due time he always told himself.
