    Trial and Error Ch. 12

It took a silent twenty seconds until Bette walked to the car, more confused than ever before.

Tina tossed and turned in her bed. It was two in the morning and she still couldn’t sleep. All she could think about was Bette, Bette, and Bette. Hudson had just dropped her off and kissed on her on the cheek and left with the words "See you at school Tina." Sometimes, she wondered if Hudson was raised the right way. Usually guys would try to take advantage of her when dropping her off and they’d have minute long make-out sessions in front of the door. But Hudson just…left.

Her thoughts returned to Bette. That kiss. Oh my god, that kiss. How could a girl’s lips feel so soft, so inviting, so safe? Why did she even want to kiss Bette? How did Bette feel when she was kissed? Tina groaned as she rolled over, checking her cell phone for the time. She stared at the ceiling, creating Bette’s face in the shadows above. She tried to close her eyes, but Bette was still there.

    THUD

Tina felt her chest. It wasn’t the first time that night her heart made that noise. She was starting to get used to it.

     THUD

Tina faced the window to see if the noise was coming from outside. Like she suspected, a small pebble hit her glass window with a small…

    THUD

She sat up in bed and planted her feet on the floor waiting for the next pebble.

    THUD

Finally, a nervous and scared Tina walked over to window, craning her neck, hoping she could see the shooter without he/she getting a glimpse of her. She was able to make out brown hair, probably a female.

Below Bette ignored her shivering body’s pleas to go inside and held the last pebble in her hand. She rolled it around her fingers and clenched her fist around it. Kissing the back of her hand for good luck, she bent her arm by her elbow, ready to shoot the piece of rock. Metaphorically speaking it was her last chance.

"Bette, what are you doing?" Tina called out from the now-open window above. She tried to whisper as loud as she could to keep her parents from waking up.
