Mercedes gives him a big hug: "I’m so stupid!! Yeah, I do remember you and your family." She takes Christian’s face in her hands. "It’s just that you changed, you’re a man now. But please come in."

They come into the house and go to the living room.

Christian: "Mercedes, this is for you." He hands her one bunch of red roses. "Where is Grandma? I have one for her, too."

Mercedes: "Red roses, my favorite. Thanks!!" She gives him a peck on the cheek and says, "Mom is at my sister’s house. She’ll be back tomorrow to see Carmen."

Just then Carmen comes downstairs, saying, "Mamita, nobody called this morning asking for me?…" When she reaches the last step, she sees Christian. "Christian? What are you doing here?" Immediately, she runs to hug him. "You don’t know how glad I am that you came."

Christian hands her a bunch of roses and says, "Happy birthday!! I didn’t know what to give you so I played it safe. Women and flowers go perfectly together."

Carmen: "Thanks!! It’s my first present. Yellow roses, I love them!!"

Mercedes: "Christian, do you want me to make you something to eat? It’s almost lunchtime…. Begonia’s boyfriend is taking awhile with the grill."

Christian: "A cup of coffee would be fine."

Carmen: "Mom, I’ll make the coffee. You better go make sure Luis doesn’t burn the meat."

Mercedes goes to the garden as Carmen and Christian come into the kitchen. Carmen begins to make the coffee.

Christian: "So tell me, how many times has my dear cousin called you to wish you a happy birthday?"

Carmen, sadly: "She hasn’t called me yet."

Christian, laughing, goes up to Carmen and hugs her: "Oh!! Poor little thing!! She’s sad because her girlfriend hasn’t called her yet." He releases her and says, "Yesterday, I was talking with that nut by phone. She was so sad because she won’t be able to come."

Carmen sighs: "Yeah, my baby was so sad!! She told me she had been thinking she could take the pictures yesterday so she could come here today and surprise me. She even apologized for not being able to do it. I remember now, you’re not the first one who gave me a present. Sasha dedicated a song to me last night. She’s so sweet!!" She sighs.
