This Should Be Interesting Chapter 8

It was 6:30pm and Bette was just about to leave her office when her phone rang.

Bette: (Turning around) Who could that be? Im going to be late. (Answering the phone) CAC, this is Bette Porter.

Tina: Hey, Bette!

Bette: Oh, hi Tinais everything ok?

Tina: Well ummI hate to tell you this, but I cant make it to dinner tonightIm really sorrymy boss gave me a new script to edit and it needs to be done before MondayI have my intern here with me to help me out as wellthis has just been an unbelievable day!

Bette: Oh thats ok, maybe we can have dinner next week.

Tina: (Noticing the disappointment in Bettes voice) Or we could have breakfast at this caf that I know in the morning. They have the best coffee.

Bette: S*** what is wrong with me, why do I want to see her so badlyI need to find out tonight Well, I have a better ideawhy dont I pick up some take out for the three of us and we can eat dinner while you guys work?

Tina: I wouldor we would love that, thank you, but are you sure? I mean there wont be too much talking going on well just be working.

Bette: I dont mind at all, I have some work that I still need to finish as wellso, is Chinese ok?

Tina: (Loving this woman more and more) Yes that sounds great! Ill leave your name with the security and he should give you a pass and directions to my office.

Bette: (She liked the way Tina sounded so in control, that her stomach began to flutter) ok, Ill be there soon, bye. (She needed to get off the phone quick before her heart jumped out of her chest)

Tina: ok, bye. (Trying to remember to breath)

Bette grabbed her briefcase, locked up the gallery, and went to get dinner.


Tinas office.

Tina just sat there lost in her thoughts again not noticing the flustered look on her face.

Sheryl: Are you ok boss?
Tina: (Snapping out of it) Oh, yeahIm fine.

Sheryl: (Teasing) Ok well, get back to work woman!

Tina: (With a small laugh) is it always work with you?

Sheryl: Wo, wo, wo, hold it right there!

Here it comes

Sheryl: Youre here 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, dont even tell me that! Do you even have friendsbesides the ones here at work.

Tina: of course I have friendsyou met Alice and Shane at that party last month!

Sheryl: Oh yeah, I forgotok, when was the last time you went out to a club?

Tina: Well its been about a week and half but I did have dinner with a friend a few days ago.

Sheryl: OOOh! So who is this friend? And I know it isnt Alice or Shane because you would have said so. Sooooo

Tina: Ok, but first of all its not what you think, but I met her at the CAC and her name is Bette Porter.

Sheryl: Wow! Bette Portershes hot!

Tina: Excuse me?!

Sheryl: Dont even go there! Ive seen her in a couple of magazines and she is hot. But I thought that she was straight?

Tina: She is and she has a boyfriend, thats why Im saying she is just a friend. But speaking of Betteshes coming over and shes bringing dinner.

Sheryl: What? Why is she coming over?

Tina: Well I was suppose to have dinner with her again tonight and I got stuck here so I called her and told her that I wasnt going to make it, so she suggested she bring dinner for the three of us and she would bring some unfinished work with her She should be here soon.

Sheryl: Wait, wait, wait! You were supposed to have dinner with her again? Its Friday night, why isnt she going out with her boyfriend?

Tina: I dont know were just trying to get to know one another since we will be working together when we start shooting the movie at the CAC. Can we just drop it, please? We have to get this finished

Sheryl: Ok, I just think its a little odd.

Tina: Sheryl?!!

Sheryl: Ok, Ok

By that time Bette was walking down the hall looking for Tinas office. When finding it she knocked on the door and walked in.

Tina: Hey Bette, let me help you with that.

She got up, walked over to Bette and grabbed the food. Their hands touched and they felt it again. A jolt of electricity that sent chills through there body They had goose bumps on top of their goose bumps They could feel the butterflies coming back They just stood there and looked at each other.

Bette: (Snapping out of it) Thanks, I wasnt sure how long I was going to be able to hold this stuff.

Tina: You should have called I would have come down to help.

Bette: Thats ok, Im here now.

They both just stood there again.

Sheryl cleared her throat trying to make her presence known.

Tina: Oh sorry, umm Bette this iss***

Sheryl: (Noticing she forgot her name) SherylIm Tinas secretary slash intern.

Bette: (Shaking her hand) Im Bette, a friend of Tinas.

I freakin lost my mind! How could I forget her name! Pull yourself together!

Tina: Okumm so what did you get?

Bette: Oh, I kind of got a little of everything, I wasnt sure what you ladies liked.

Tina: Thats fine Lets get started

They grabbed their food and they got to work. They have been at it for about three hours and it was already 11pm. Tina noticed the time and she knew it was time to quit for the night.

Tina: Wow, its pretty late. Sheryl, why dont you go ahead and go home, Ill finish this during the weekend ok?

Sheryl: (Yawning) Ok (getting her stuff together) Well Ill see you Monday. It was nice meeting you Bette. Thanks for the dinner.

Bette: Your welcome and it was nice meeting you as well.

She left, so Tina and Bette just sat in awkward silence.

Tina: (Breaking the ice) Thanks for the dinner, it was delicious.

Bette: (She got up to stretch) Your welcome. (She walked to the window) I love the lights of L.A. Dont you?

Tina was just sitting there watching Bettes every move and she felt like there were butterflies having a party in her stomach. She didnt even realize she was asked a question.

Bette: Tina?

Tina: Oh, yeah its nice (Hoping she answered right)

Bette turned around and noticed a picture on Tinas desk and picked it up.

Bette: Are they your friends?

Tina: (She got up and walked over to Bette. She grabbed the picture very slowly from Bette never taking her gaze off of her) Yeah (She finally looked at the picture and pointed at Alice) this is Alice (then pointed to Shane) and this is Shane.

Bette felt her knees get weak just by Tinas small touch. She couldnt believe what she was feeling, it was unexplainable, she was scared but she wanted more than a small touch to verify what she was feeling for this other woman standing in front of her.

It was like Tina could read her mind, but she could also see the fear in Bettes eyes. Tina took one step closer to Bette. I want you so bad, I want to give you everything you want, please trust me hoping that Bette could hear what her eyes were saying. She never took her eyes off Bettes and she slowly cupped her face with her hands. At that moment Bette closed her eyes, she loved that feeling of soft hands on her face, Bette opened her eyes looking at Tina again. Tina slowly leaned in and gave Bette the softest and most delicate kiss she had ever given anyone. She leaned back and waited for Bette to open her eyes. So much was happening at one time for Bette. She had so much different feelings and thoughts she didnt know what to do. She opened her eyes and one tear rolled down her cheek. Tina thought she had done something wrong and she let go of Bette.

Bette: That waswas(She didnt know what she feeling)I got to go (She went to get her stuff) Im sorry (trying to hold her tears in and she left)

Tina just stood there not knowing what to do. Well done Kennard, f***ing well done F***!!!
