The Triangle of Love – Chapter 22 (Part 1)

Alice: Dane, what are you having?

    Dana: I’m not having anything.

Alice swallowed the mouthful of pancake and looked questioningly at Dana.

    Alice: Why?

Dana: I was going to get something later. I’m not really that hungry.

    Alice: I feel awkward now.

    Dana: Why?

Alice: Because I’m eating, and you’re not.

Just as Dana was about to answer Alice, there was a loud bang, followed by the screeching of tyres outside their window. Alice almost jumped out of her chair when she heard the noise, and Dana immediately ran to the window to see what it was. She managed to see a car speeding away from the house, but couldn’t make out the number plate or what make or model the car was, although, it did look like a large vehicle. She made her way back to the kitchen to comfort Alice, who was shaking in her seat.

Alice: What the fuck was that, Dane?

Dana: I have no idea, but I think it’s gone now.

    Alice: Did you see anyone?

Dana: No, there was a car speeding away, but there was no one outside.

    Alice: I’m scared, Dana.

    Dana: Yeah, I’ll call Shane.

Dana didn’t want to admit it, but she was scared too. She had no idea what the noise was, or who had done it, but she didn’t want to go outside to look for anyone either. She quickly called Shane who said she’d be right over, with Carmen in tow. Around 10 minutes later, Shane and Carmen arrived. Dana welcomed them in, and began explaining what had happened.

Shane: Are you sure there was nothing there?

Dana: A car, but I don’t know what kind. Shane, what if it was one of Lara’s men?

Shane: Did you talk to Alice about this?

Alice had gone back into the bedroom to begin writing a new story, as she had fallen behind at work and although she had a valid excuse, she didn’t want to fall any deeper.

Dana: No, I don’t think I want to either.

    Shane: Why?

Dana: I don’t want to worry her. She’s doing really well with her legs and I don’t want her to fall back.

Shane: Dane, I think you should talk to her. At least let her know how you’re feeling about this. I knew she’ll be scared, and I know you are too, so you need to be honest with her.
