The Sound Track of Our Lives

Alice stands up. She glances left to right, left to right her eyes finally settling on the larger stack. She once again bends down to pick up an album from the mound.

“The ***** pistols remind you of Bette?” Alice asks in disbelief.

                Tina’s shoulders shakes slightly.

“Ok. Scoot over I’m going to help.” Alice plops on the floor next to Tina. She pulls a CD off the shelf, “B.B. Kings greatest hits?”

Tina shakes her head, eyes down cast studying the album in front of her, “She sing Lucille to her laptop when she has signed a hard to get artist.”

“Lucille? The one about his guitar?”

“Yes, it is her laptops name.”

Alice chuckles, “Bette named her laptop?”

                “And the SAAB.”

Alice wraps her arms around her stomach in an effort to control the laughter. Tina watches Alice‘s mirth. Alice‘s eyes met Tina’s sad eyes. Alice stops laughing at once.

She wraps her arms around Tina and whispers in her ear,” It’s ok, T. I’m sorry.”

Tina holds on to Alice, “I miss her. I don’t think I can live with out her.”

    “Then talk to her.”

“It isn’t that easy,” Tina is struggling to keep herself calm.” I miss her but I”Tina’s voice fails, she sobs pulling herself even closer to Alice,” AL, I think I might hate her.”

Alice pulls herself free from Tina’s grasp. She looks Tina in the eyes, “You don’t hate her, T.” Tina rips her eyes away from Alice‘s. Alice gently grabs Tina shoulders,” You don’t hate her. You can’t. You have every right to feel anger but Tina you love her too much to hate her. She loves you too much for you to hate her.”

“Be..” Tina stops unable to say Bette’s name.” She loves me? Is that why she fucked the carpenter? Huh AL?” Tina yells to Alice.

She bolts up onto her feet knocking over the stack of music in front of her. Realizing she still has a CD in her hand she throws it against the wall, the case shatters upon impact. The noise startles both of the edgy women. Both stare in wonderment at the smashed case and the round disc rolling toward Tina. The disc stops at her feet.  Slowly Tina kneels down to pick it up. CD in hand she moves to the stereo.
