The Newly Discovered SoCal Humminger Bette Porterius ~ Chapter 10

“Asshole,” Tina addressed the now silent telephone receiver.  She thought for a moment, then reached for the receiver again but this time to speak to someone else.

    “Bron, smoke break.”

    “Now?”

Tina pulled her pack of cigarettes and lighter from the back of a bottom drawer of her desk and stood.  She held them in one hand and waved that hand, showing its contents, to her assistant as she passed her desk.

    “Back in a few.”

“What should I do if anyone calls?” Eileen yelled as Tina quickly walked away.

Tina indulged herself in an eye roll, since the assistant couldn’t see her face.  “Whatever you usually say when I am not at my desk.”

Within a minute she was outside the building and could see her amused friend walking towards her.

“Your prop cigarettes are dried out.”

Tina looked at the pack.  “I need to replace them,” Tina said as she lit one.

“Those things look like they’ll go up like kindling.  What do they taste like?”

“How would I know?  I just wave them around when someone comes nearby.”

“You’re the boss now. Head of Development.  You can tell them you are going for a walk, running an errand, getting a latte.”

“Bad example.  The latte idea is good except I’d be expected to bring back for everyone and you know how I am.”

    “Cheap.”

    “Frugal.”

“I guess you’re supposed to send the interns for coffee.”

“I’m still learning how to be the boss.”

“Okay, now that we‘ve stalled, why did you pull me away from my desk and make me pretend that I smoke.”

    “Eric! He’s being impossible.”

“The perfect man?  I don’t believe you.”

“Well, if he’s so perfect, you take him.”

    “I would, but it’d be tacky. “

Tina rolled her eyes at her friend.

“You did it.  I thought you were going to work on that.”

“Shit, I did it, didn’t I?  I have been working on it.”

“Heads of Development do not eye roll.”

“I don’t think I do it for work stuff.”  Tina corrected herself before Bronwyn could, “Not any more.”

    1. Isn’t “girlcrush” what they tell baby dykes in the sentence immediately after the one in which we, too, are sure to some day find a man who’ll marry us? Good to see you back, Spumoni ! :-)

    2. I’ve been AWOL for a week and am just getting caught up on all my stories. Great updates Spumoni! I think that a girl crush that never goes away however is called Lesbianism…but I’m sure Tina will find that out soon enough. Just waiting for more now.

    3. Fake smoke breaks? Monster truck rallies? Something’s definitely up with Tina, and a girlcrush is just the tip of the iceberg. I love the friendship with Tina and Bronwyn. Heck, I just love this story. Can’t wait for the next chapter, thanks Spumoni!

    4. Yea, techgal and Journey are very correct, “girlcrush” my hiney. It is pure and simple lust and she Tina is very scared of her own self and feelings. Thanks for posting.

    5. Hi, dear sweet Spumoni! *waving* Ah, this update as great. It shows all the turmoil and pent up feelings that Tina has since attending the gallery opening. “Girlcrush” sounds cute and at least takes some anxiety and panic off Tina’s shoulders. She’s more than ready to go to that dinner. Ah, it should be very interesting! This is getting better and better, dear friend. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. – Lu & Marsh (Proud Salsa Aunties to the loving JC, Eunichick, ZLFAN, T_Daze, Melrose231 and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)

    6. Wasn’t expecting the monster trucks. Wow, Tina really is exploring strange, new appetites, isn’t she? Now, I know I teased you about the name ‘Bronwyn’, so I have to confess I actually considered the name for my new cat. I found that Bronwyn and it’s alternate spellings mean white/fair/shining breast in Welsh. The cat is pure white from her toes up to the very point of her chin. She is, of course, adorable. And sweet. OK, now I’m sounding like Tina mooning over Bette. I’ll stop now.

    7. Plod, indeed Spumoni! You’re practically backing up, but the pace is just one more appealing part of the story. Just hilarious as we trudge towards the dinner. Could Tina be any cuter?? I once endured relentless teasing for attending Swamp Buggy Races because I, too, thought it sounded like fun!

    8. I love Tina’s friendship with Bronwyn. They’re really cute together. Maybe Tina will let her guard down now that she thinks that what she’s feeling for Bette is just a girlcrush….

    9. Awww girl crushes…they make me smile :PI can’t wait for them to meet again and the whole earring thing and fall in love :) *sigh* I wish i was them.
