The Mythical Season 3.5 – “Episode 27: Streets Of Philadelphia”
Bruce Springsteen – Streets Of Philadelphia
______________________________________
A light rain falls over the East Coast as the bus is getting closer to the Philadelphia Auditorium. Things have been timed for the bus to arrive just in time for the speech. There’s mostly silence on the bus as everyone begins to realize with the number of news vans lined up along the street and the crowded sidewalks that this could be rough. Sharon Fairbanks is silent as she goes over her notes and quietly prays to God. Her son, Howie sits beside her, looking around at what he considers the same bullshit, just a different circumstance. It’s the downsie of growing up in the Fairbanks family. Pundits everywhere are expecting to look and carry yourself a certain way. It’s not even peer pressure he’s felt all these years, instead it’s the intense scrutiny of people perceived above him expecting an exact behaviour. He hates it all. He hates the media. He hates the cameras and any sense of limelight and his one wish at this moment is to eventually get away from all of it like his sister Dana once did by escaping into West Hollywood. But for now, he’s stuck in a prison he’s unsure he’ll ever go out of. And he hates it.
Many people are waiting outside the auditorium, many who either support Breast Cancer research or are simply gay rights activists, having caught word of a crowd from West Hollywood riding along, including a famous basketball player, Zee who’s out. There are signs held up in the crowd that shows this support, along with rainbow styled flags and signs that read about equality. Watching on from a distance is one of those responsible for this outpouring of support in the rain, Senator Grisham. She isn’t in the crowd, but watches quietly from across the street. Her mission was to diffuse any threat by L. Faye Buckley’s group. Whether or not they succeed may wind up being debated on the various news outlets, but one thing is for certain. Faye is there and so is her group.
Some cling to Bibles, others to signs that refer to Sharon as a Benedict Arnold figure of the Pro-Family Movement. The obligatory "Adam & Eve, Not Adam & Steve" sign is also displayed amongst this group. In the rainy Philadelphia street on this early evening, Faye’s movement is heavily outnumbered which causes a smirk to emitt from Grisham’s face. She did well tonight, regardless of what happens now.
