    The letter on the subway

Bette continued her close inspection of the piece all the while listening to Tina’s answers.
"Where does her inspiration come from?"
"It usually is a spark, a fleeting moment, an emotional state and …she told me herself…painting is  like her release and the release translates into an image"
Bette had approached the canvas again and was scrutinising the bottom right hand corner. She studied the little monograph which sat in the corner of the paint. "T" Bette read silently, the same little stylised letter which adorned the letter she had found. This artist and the author of the words, which had touched her heart so profoundly,  were undeniably the same person.
She straightened herself back up and turned around  and addressed Tina. Her tone was serious.
"What age were you when you realised you were born to paint?"
    "5th grade……I painted a pict….."
Tina swallowed the rest of her sentence. She stared  at Bette. Bette looked back at her. She had found her out.
"Why…….why…did you not tell me…why did you not tell me…all this was you?" Bette asked making a wide sweeping movement with her right hand. The gallery owner’s whole body seemed to be interrogating her, the tone of her voice, her now crossed arms on her chest,  the cold stare of her usually soft brown eyes.
What the blonde was oblivious to, however, was the storm which was raging through Bette’s head. A thousand thoughts were swirling uncontrollably in her brain as she was trying to make sense of the situation.
Tina was her newly appointed assistant, who knew the artist that Bette wanted to sign for her gallery. The same artist who by sheer coincidence had landed in Bette’s life and had unknowingly revealed herself  as the author of the subway letter. Only the artist was not the artist who had come to see her, Tina was the artist which in turn made Tina, the author of the letter!
Bette felt overwhelmed. How could she have been so blind. "T" was evidently for "Tina". Not only that but how could anyone speak so intimately  about somebody else’s work. She had been such a fool.
She had uncrossed her arms and was now pacing the floor of the studio, one hand on her hip and the other rubbing her forehead. Deception, if there was one thing that Bette could not abide, it was deception. She tried to cool her temper and focused on  the situation.
The angrier she wanted to become, the more the obvious realisation was hitting her. Her impossible attraction to the author of the letter and the feelings she had developed for the blonde were linking. The two people, one imaginary, one real, were one of the same.
Then, she heard it, a little voice behind her, barely above a whisper.
"Bette, I am sorry…..I’ll understand if you do not wish to see me again…I have tried so many times to tell you…but I did not want to hurt you….you mean too much to me!"
Bette lifted her head, her eyes now softer almost pleading. The first part of Tina’s apology shot right through her heart. "Not see you again!" she repeated in her head, "No…not seeing you ever  again is not an option" she continued silently.
In two long strides, Bette had closed the space which separated them.
She cupped Tina’s face without warning and crashed her lips on the blonde’s. The kiss was not angry but desperate. No, she did not want to never see  Tina again! An extraordinary set of circumstances had brought her into her life, she was not going to let go of this incredible woman so easily.
She felt the blonde’s surprise at her sudden onslaught but the initial apprehension of her response was soon appeased when she felt Tina respond to her kiss.

    1. Waaaaah! I now have the biggest smile on my face! And you missy is the one responsible for putting it there. I am watching a rerun of AI and just saw JB. Oh what a wonderful moment this is. Teehee! I am glad Bette acted above her anger and feeling of deception. I still wish though that Tina came clean but all is good and I am a happy camper here. Thank you for posting! It was worth the wait. :) PPS

    2. Okay so now I’m glad that part is exposed. But now Bette needs to let her know that she got her letter :) Great story. Only one problem. Chapters are way too short :) Waiting for more.

    3. Ahahah, I suppose my line must have sounded like a cheesy pick up line indeed! LOL, but please know that I don’t mean it any less! And thank you for the return of the compliment, it’s a nice one coming from such a great writer. Anyway, great update (was eagerly waiting for it), and I’m glad that Bette finally figured it out! And again I have to point out another fantastic line of yours: “No, not seeing you ever again is not an option”. It’s like Bette’s heart is saying to its owner “I don’t give a fuck how angry you are, you are NOT letting this woman go. You’re just not!” Love it, you have a way with words. Thanks! Kw

    4. So glad that Bette figured out that Tina was the artist, now she just needs to tell Tina that she found the letter on the subway, well maybe, maybe not. She might want to keep that bit of info to herself until a crucial moment. Personally I think she should tell her now. Fanastic chapter. Thanks for posting. PPVVS

    5. Wow!! Kins you nailed it!! :-) …. You really have way on words!! Can’t believe that English is not your mother tongue! I can’t imagine how great it’ll be if you writing in your mother tongue language!! I love this story!! And looking forward to your next post, PPVS, thanks :-) … (my silent prayer: and I hope it’d be soon and or longer.. ^^, please??) Anyway.. “She is like a big sister to me”?? LOL hmm where did I heard that before?? ;-)

    7. I’ve read this chapter four times as it is so perfectly written. First having Tina hesitate to come clean and then having Bette realize the truth. I loved it! I can’t wait to see how Bette reveals the letter and what Tina’s reaction will be to her having found it. Anxiously waiting….

    8. I am sorry that I fell behind. The fear that Tina must have had in her heart had to have almost killed her. How does one go and tell the woman that she has fallen for that she is the artist. What Tina does not realize is the letter she wrote is now in Bette’s possession.
