The L word: Tina Kennard’s lost background
“Talk to me!” Tina demands sitting up, and resting her body to the headboard.
“It’s nothing…T. Sorry I woke you up…” Bette said, still lying on her back. She knew that if their gazes had met, Tina immediately would read her thoughts. It wasn’t need any magic for that, the years together were pretty enough for Tina to read Bette like an open book.
“Bette, don’t make me hurt you…!” Tina said, trying to sound deadly serious, suppressing her giggle.
“Yeah right…” Bette chuckled.
“You’re lucky your sister’s room is near here…” Tina said, raising her eyebrow…”Talk…!”
Bette exhaled deeply and turns on her side, facing Tina.
“What if something goes wrong…whit the plan…Who’s going to take care of Angie? Maybe it’s a bad idea, let’s just give your mother what she wants, and she’ll leave us alone…eventually.” Bette said, looking at Tina’s reaction.
“Bette…is not that simple. My mother wants that book for something really bad, and if we just give it to her, there won’t be end of the hell that’s going to unleash over us. I know you don’t like the whole plan, but this is our last hope…”
“I just don’t want you to go there alone…that’s all…” Bette said bending her head down.
“I know sweetie…but I won’t be alone…you guys are going to be near, and if something goes wrong…I’ll know there’s a rescue team waiting for me.” Tina said, kissing Bette’s lips.
“What if…” Bette began, but Tina cut her off with another kiss.
“Stop with the “What if-s”…lets go back to sleep…” Tina said, turning of the light and spooning Bette from behind. She putted left hand over her tummy, caressing her lightly. This was the only thing she knew will relax her. And she was right. No longer after that Bette was in deep slumber, her heartbeat was normal and her breathing soft and steady.
Next morning she woke in an empty bed. Tina’s side was cold. Bette looked franticly around, seen that Tina’s clothes where not there…”No…god no…” Bette whispered, she get of the bed, running for her clothes around the room. Few minutes after that, she ran out to the living room searching for Tina. It was still early. Kit was sleeping so as Angie. Bette ran to Angie’s room, when she didn’t found Tina there she ran to the kitchen. Nothing… Her heart was beating fast, she start panic, when she couldn’t find Tina. That means one thing. Tina went there alone, stubborn as always, she didn’t want to risk her friend’s lives. Bette went back in the living room, feeling like someone just ripped her heart out. She wanted to cry, to scream, to hurt someone…Bette plopped down on the couch, her eyes spotted something on the coffee table. It was a note with Tina’s handwriting.
