The Dying of the Light Part 2

Twelve years we have known each other.

Did we really know each other?

Can you really know another person?

    She never knew me; right?

That I was destined to fail…  to hurt… to take and take and take until the last bit of life are sucked dry.

She would have known I am a vampire.  A heartless tramp.  A vagrant in emotional badlands.

She would have known me; once.

No matter what manner of fairy-tale I tell myself…  I’m a monster who can’t even remember if there was love in this home, and that’s why she took my Angel away.

Alice, Kit and Helena sat quietly watching Bette, waiting for her to respond to question that was fired at her.  A question that she couldn’t hear, to lost in her own questions.  To lost to explain the world as she sees it to the people she loves the most.

If she can love at all.

“Baby Girl?”  Kit called, concern lacing her words.  “Bette?”  She tried again and shared a look with her companions.  This is worse then they thought, worse then Helena had tried to warn them about.

“Elizabeth Porter, head up and eyes forward” Kit demanded, channelling her Daddy for a moment, hoping that will snap Bette out of her own head.

“Daddy?”  Bette whispered, looking up, eyes searching the room.

“No Baby Girl.  Just us, your family.”  Kit’s voice broke realising that Bette is further away then she could have ever imagined.

“Sorry, I’m just tired.  I wasn’t expecting any company tonight.”  A small, crooked smile graced Bette’s face, but it seemed unnatural – forced.

“Even though, you could have offered us a beer.  Some snacks?”  Alice pointed out, trying to lighten the moment.

“I really don’t think…” Bette stared, scrunching her face up trying to remember what was in her fridge and cupboards.  “I think I need to go and get some things.  I haven’t been shopping… in… awhile.” she trailed off, remembering the last time she was in the grocery store.  Buying M&M’s.  She didn’t even like M&M’s, too much candy and not enough real chocolate.  Dark Chocolate was more her speed.  M&M’s were… a lifetime ago.

“Bette.  What these two are dancing around is the fact we are worried about you.  Where here to help.  Direct us.”  Helena said, standing, arms open indicating her surrender to the situation.

    1. If she left the country.might be hard to find, but they can start checking airlines and if in the states SS#. If she works ssssssssssssssshe will used her SS# Bete wil get better. thanks

    2. Great chapter. My question is this, “why is Helena not trying to find Tina and, does she know where Tina may be?” Tina is too well known in film circles to stay hidden for too long. Or is she in the movie business in this story?Helena with her vast wealth and connections should be able to find Tina in a moment’s notice. So, what gives? PPS

    3. Hello Deean… yet again you have completely knocked my off my literary feet… the sheer power behind your words… behind your voice is incapacitating… the heartache that ‘Bette’ is suffering and the truth in her families love for her is just amazing… to feel each emotion as you weave them with words of power is just a completely amazing sensation… I cannot wait to see where you take this… I truly hope that ‘Bette’ can find herself out of this and seek out her hearts desire… whether that be ‘Tina’ or someone else I just want her to be happy once again, hugs, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels)
