The Canvas of Our Life…Ch 8

“Dad you never miss work. I don’t remember you ever calling in sick. What is Dr. Gordon doing for you this time? Do you need me?”

“Well kiddo, I have enough sick time built up to take almost 3 months off in a row if I needed to. I know old man Potter has regretted that roll-over policy ever since he hired me! I’ve got my friend here to take care of me. You remember Carol right?”

    “YesI remember.”

“Now Tina, she’s a very nice woman and she really cares about me. Promise you’ll give her a chance?”

“Sure Dad, but I am available. Just call me ok? Now tell me what Dr. Gordon is doing this time.”

“Well, he is considering surgery. He’s been running some tests this week. You know how doctors are. Rack up the insurance bills. It’s probably just a pinched nerve or something. Nothing to worry about babe. Now tell me what’s going on in your life? How’s Eric?”

“Eric’s fine, I’m fine. Just been working a lot. Dad, please promise me that you’ll call me when you hear something from the doctor.”

“Sure sure sweetie. I miss you T. Maybe when I feel better, I’ll come back down for another visit. We’ll go tear up the town together since you never seem to get out any other time. Tell me what DO you and Eric do together?”

“I don’t want to talk about Eric Dad. I AM going out tonight for your information. I’m going to a club in West Hollywood with some new friends. It’s a dance club and I DO plan on dancing!”

“DANCING with out ME?” Good for you T, I wanna hear all about it. Heywhat does Eric have to say about this. Isn’t this taboo in his world?”

“Listen Dad, Eric and I are kind of, well we’re taking a break.”

Larry couldn’t help but smile and Tina could almost hear it over the phone.

“I know that breaks your heart Dad.” She said sarcastically.

“Tinayou’ve got me all wrong. I don’t like hearing that you’re having problems. It’s just, Eric is so boring. He has no sense of humor and he’she’s a conservative for crying out loud. Maybe I shouldn’t have raised you as a “Closet Liberal” I should’ve raised you as a “Loud and Proud Liberal.” I only did it for your mother’s sake you know.”

“Daddy, I know. Don’t worry about Eric and I. We just need some time apart right now. I need to sow some wild oats if you know what I mean.”

“Ahh, like father like daughter. Oooh, ouch, listen T, I’ve gotta go. I’m need to go lie down and get some rest. My back is really hurting today. I love you kiddo. Be careful tonight ok?”

“Ok Dad, pleasetake it easy. I’ll call you tomorrow. I love you too. Goodbye.”
