    I was nervous. I wondered what Bette would think of it. No one else had ever read it. I had trouble concentrating until finally she came into the kitchen and sat across from me.

    PART THREE: SAN PEDRO, CALIFORNIA

    Chapter 3

    Terry’s lawyer reached for a file and opened it in front of him on his desk. He handed me a check from its contents.

    I looked down at it and gasped. It was for $10,000, made out to me and signed by Terrell Johnson. I looked up with wonder.

    “What’s this for?” I asked.

    He handed me a contract.

    I took it and skimmed through it. Terry was asking to read the screenplay I had written and he was willing to pay $10,000 to do it. If he liked it and wanted to buy it, this amount of money would be part of my recompense. If he did not want to buy it, the money was to encourage me to try again.

    I looked at Jeff and blinked. This came out of the blue. I was astounded.
    Finally I said, “Why didn’t he just ask me?”

    “He says he has asked you, numerous times.”

    I looked down and flashed back. Yes, he had asked me many times through the years. He had encouraged me to write a screenplay and when I did, I was afraid to do anything with it because it touched on homosexuality. I almost wrote it as therapy, to get some of that out of my system but it did not work. I put the screenplay away and thought that while I was married, there was no way I could reveal any of that. I had such little faith in myself at the time.

    When I left Howie – and Bette and I moved into the apartment, she had a lot of furniture and personal items from her house that we did not have room for, so we rented a storage unit in West Los Angeles. I had some things too including the screenplay, which I had packed in a box full of other things I had written. I thought of the screenplay from time to time but was never motivated enough to bring it out and read it again. I just felt I had too many other things to do.

    “Is this what he does?” I asked. “Pay to read people’s scripts?”

    1. Ok, the only reason he would call at freakin’ 2 a.m. would be to tell her that he loves it, right? This is getting exciting! (rubbing hands together) Can’t wait for the next chapter.

    2. kbergin17, That may be true but then what? As I said earlier, things are really going to start happening for these two, in ways even I couldn’t imagine but then since I wrote it, I guess anything is possible and not just for Sissee but certainly Bette too.

    3. Let me continue kbergin’s guess… Then what? … I guess Terry will offer Sissee more money, or get her to write the script for a movie. He must be touched by her story, thus calling her at 2 AM in the morning. Bette probably will get some extra money from her work/investment as well. Both of them can finally afford the house of their dream :)

    4. Bette’s Babe, Your last line is correct, that Bette and Sissee may finally be able to get their dream house. We may be seeing where it is coming from for Sissee but what about Bette? What is in store for her? Even TLW never thought about this for her.

    5. 2am call from Terry?…well i’m guessing he’s estatic about the script or he’s all about something else..u never know w/ Terry…open for ne thing..can’t wait for the nxt update

    6. Thanks Gummy Bear, You are right to guess that Terry is calling about the script but don’t you wonder what he has in mind about it? Does it stand on its own or does he have other plans for Sissee?
