The Adventures Of Bette Porter and Sissee Gardner After Yale (Part 6, Chapter 4)

About that time I noticed several dingoes going to the side of the house where I had lost my lunch and I started to gag again. This time I was racked with dry heaves. I finally unlocked the car and waited inside.

Eventually Bette came out of the shack and asked me for all of my cash. I gave her everything I had including Mexican and American money. Without a word she went back into the building.

When she came out again she had a stack of paintings in her arms, followed by Chavez and Jorge, each of whom also had their hands full. I got out of the bus and began unlocking doors for them.

When they got the paintings securely inside, Bette shook Chavez’s hand and promised to be in touch with him. When she got behind the wheel of the driver’s seat she looked at me absolutely triumphant and said, “What a find! What a fucking phenomenal find!”

She turned the car around to get back on the bumpy road. While she waved to those who were still standing around, feeling pretty cocky about herself, she started talking a mile a minute, reminding me of an inflated balloon that had just been let go in a room and was jumping off the wall and furniture.

“I tried to write him a check but he shook his head, so I gave him all of my cash and yours too. Between us we had $1200 counting both Mexican and American. You can’t imagine how happy that man was to see all that money. Even the little boy was grinning ear to ear.

“Sis! I’ve got 20 paintings. That’s 60 bucks apiece. He’s happy. I’m happy. Terry and Edward will be happy. But the really exciting part is that I see such a potential for this guy. He’s going to be rich and famous someday, there’s no doubt in my mind. It’s going to be a rags to riches story if ever there was one!”

“Well, so far, you’ve got the rags part right.”

“I told him my lawyer would be down to draw up the sale in writing and legally commission at least four paintings a month from him with progressive fees for one year, after which a new contract would be drawn up. He probably didn’t understand a word I was saying. He just kept nodding his head. Yes, yes, yes!”

    1. I’m only teasing Sissee when I complain about short chapters. I just love this story so much. I think I would have felt like Sissee…….nauseated. Glad for Bette’s find though. Have a great weekend!

    2. I normally dont comment cuz i read from work and i know this one is late but sis i absolutely luv this story! i dont know why u dont get more comments but im sure u have many silent readers such as myself. i just wanted 2 take the time for once 2 show some appreciation so thanks for the incredible journies, may there be many more

    3. colenickel, Thanks for taking heart and writing your kind remarks. I don’t know why there are not more comments either. I sometimes wonder if other writer’s are reading but for what ever reason stay clear of admitting it. Perhaps part of the problem is that I dare to write about Bette with someone other than the usual show characters, which to some may seem like betrayal. You will find in my future, eventual chapters, that Bette does indeed live with Tina as per TLW storyline but you will see how Sissee stays in her life. Thank you so very much again for taking time out to let me know you are there.

    4. kbergin47, Thank you so much for your continued, positive comments. I am very pleased to have you as a reader. I’m glad you were teasing about short chapters. If they seem short, that is a good sign you are enjoying them. As for your telling me to have a good weekend, I can assure you that I did since it was all family oriented. And now here’s hoping that you have a great week!
