    The 8th Mile

    California Bay

<splash><crash><splash> are the sounds of the waves at they hit against the California Bay. This is the next day, and yes Bette is away, and she left me here to stay.

Josh: “hey Tina, what do you think?” he asked as he raised two seashells high in the air

Tina: “I guess they’ll do” she said with a smile that disappeared moments later. She peered back out to the California bay. She couldn’t stop thinking of Bette and their discussion the previous day. Was her marriage falling apart? She asked herself over and over in her head

    Josh: (curious) “are you okay?”

Tina: “yeah I’m fine” she said with another smile that disappeared moments later. She was trying to fight the unhappiness in her heart. She didn’t want to be here with Josh. She wanted Bette. She wanted her life partner of 8 1/2 years to replace this man that she was creeping on the down low with. She would lie to Bette to be with Josh, and in the end when she thought she was getting at Bette in time she was hurting herself

Josh: “are you sure your okay?” he asked with one eye open and the other closed.

Tina: (chuckles) “yeah I’m fine. Come on lets build this sand castle with the baby” she turned and picked up baby A from her car seat. “hey mama’s little girl” she smiled and bouned the baby up and down. Baby A responded by kicking her small feet back and forth. Tina placed a kiss against her warm cheek.

    Josh: (curious) “where’s Bette?”

Tina: (she pushed the loose strand of hair behind her ear) “she’s away at some meditation retreat” she said with a frown on her face

Josh: “you don’t look too happy about it” he eyeballs the blond from head to toe

Tina: (lying) “I’m fine really. Bette’s doing her thing and I’m doing mine”

Josh: “okay” he smiles. He was happy to hear that the brunette and Tina were both flying solo doing their own things. It erased some of the guilt that wraped around his heart. He wasn’t at all excited about seeing a married woman anyway. “so, what’s for lunch?” he pointed to the picnic basket that Tina bought

    1. I’m sorry but Tina is not Bette’s child she can only change what is in her power to change. So I don’t see the reason for her to have this attitude with another adult or her partner; key word partner not child.

    2. Loving it so far but why so cruel with the cliff-hanger?? Josh is such an arsehole I was hoping he’d get washed out to sea or something! Glad you’re still writing but don’t give up on the other one. Can’t wait for more (of either story). Thanks for writing.

    3. Bette needs to let Tina know that enough is enough, That she is tired of cleaning up from 2 yrs ago and if Tina didnt want her fine, she would start looking else where. Neither Josh nor Tina seems to think that one has a family. thanks

    4. I kind of like this Tina, she at least is thinking of Bette, told her that she missed her and referred to her as her wife, heck she even hugged her and took in her scent. They have a chance here. Bette is setting expectations, Tina will have a chance to do the same, not at all uncommon in adult relationships (love, business, etc.). This is the take control Bette that Tina knows, she won’t belittle Tina, but she’ll be clear and resolute on making them work, if Tina wants the same. That’s fair, reasonable and loving. On with the next chapter.
