    Summer Vacation. Chapter 50

“I meant to say thanks for a really great night.” Jenny continued politely. “and I still owe you $300.”

“$300 …?” Lottie squawked. “What for?”

“You beat me at poker.” Jenny replied, as if Lottie really ought recall. “Remember? … we came back here and you said you’d teach me how to play, then you took all my money and when we ran out of cash to play with we started betting on clothes?”

    ********

Lottie screwed up her nose. “I went to see Jenny the other night, after The Planet.”

    Bette frowned. “Jenny?”

“Uh huh.” Lottie fiddled with the rip in her jeans. “I read that article she wrote about you,” she paused, adding softly, “the one you tried to have nobody mention.”

Bette made a big deal out of stacking all the papers on the table neatly as a distraction. “That article was written a long time ago.”

    Lottie nodded, “I know …  but …”

“But nothing.” Bette replied. “It doesn’t need dragging up again.”

    ********

“So what’s going on downtown?” Helena asked, catching the mention of Tom Bradley Blvd.

“I have a deadline.” Jenny replied proudly, eager to seem like it had taken her merely a few days to land back on her feet in LA.

“Tom Bradley Blvd …” Alice spoke it aloud then paused. “That’s the …”

“Advocate.” Jenny finished for her. “Yes.”

    Alice seemed momentarily humbled. “Oh.”

    ********

“Uh oh …” Kit mumbled, after noting that the kids were all out of earshot and indoors. “I know that look.”

“What look?” Bette’s voice went high and defensive.

“That ‘lets make a baby’ look.” Kit replied knowingly.

Tina blushed and turned her face to hide it in Bette’s side.

“Are you really?” Alice jumped in. “Are you guys gonna have another baby?”

“Whoa!” Bette exclaimed. “Nothing’s been decided yet.”

“But you’re thinking about it?” Lottie asked.

Because it was her kid sister who asked and not one of their nosey, interfering friends Bette’s face softened. “Yeah, we’re thinking about it.”

    Summer Vacation – Chapter Fifty.

Lack of sleep made Bette fractious and grumpy; and whilst she couldn’t bring herself to care about the person that Bette was on her way to meet, Tina couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for Lewis Crantz, it was best not to mess with Bette when she was up all night having sex and then couldn’t sleep because of the heat.

    1. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. At first I thought Jenny killed herself, a classic, childish “you’ll be sorry when I’m gone” move to fuck everyone over. I’ve since recalled Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” in which the entire first class passenger list was guilty of killing someone they all hated. I think Jenny’s behind the collapse of Wall Street and the international banking system. Shoot her now! That miserable little crunt! So sofa, does this mean you’re back, really and truly back to stay? Please say yes. And then keep your word. Now, I don’t want to revive the whole ‘pants’ controversy (you can put the accent on whatever syllable you like), I say let sleeping pants lie, but just to avoid confusion: UK ‘pissed’=drunk, US ‘pissed’=angry.

    2. Jenny. Always Jenny. But lemme come out of Rhett Butler mode, and give the wee spiteful thing the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it’s not? Maybe it’s Mr Crantz, on some attempt to discredit all of them? Or something? Really, though, I’m thinking Jenny is to blame for Al & Hels’ ire. She’s just that type of person, isn’t she? Ire-inspiring. Anyway! I’m glad the girls won, for now, but I hope whatever Alice just discovered doesn’t nullify the victory. Thanks for the post, sofa. Cheers! :D

    3. i thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when i saw an update for this story ;) thank you so much! i wonder what jenny has written about this time. hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out :) great update, sofa!

    4. Welcome back Sofa.I am glad to see this.I hope Lottie isn’t involved but then again she was with Jenny and when you are drunk things happen to come out.Bette is going to kill someone,I hope its not kid sister.

    5. Welcome back and thank you for continuing this story. Sounds like someone is pissing off the gang. Never cared for Jenny but dislike her even more now.

    6. Head in hands, shaking it back and forth “What did Jenny do now?” I could KILL Jenny. Oh wait. That is the show, not your story. I am thrilled to see another chapter of this story Thanks.

    7. i love how uk terminologies are making their way into mainstream north american lingo. i’m trying hard to get people around here to use ‘taking the piss’ in a regular sort of way at least once a week…it’s working *wicked grin* another great installment, and hey, it’s good for J and L to deal with these intense bumps. they’re young. you write them very well in all respects. and a drunk bette was pretty cute…a bit familiar as well. *another wicked grin* post more when you can and good luck next week!

    8. Welcome back Sofa. I will be glad when Lottie can talk to Jo face to face again. I am sooooo over Jenny her and in the show. Apparently the board have leaked something about Lottie or Bette. I hope that Joyce makes them regret it. PPS :o).
