    Starting Over

    Chapter 3

    Tina sat on the edge of her bed staring at her closet.  What was going on with her?  It had been four days since the interview.  OMG Could you even call it that?  Why was she still acting like a childish idiot?    She had spent the last four days going over every moment in that office and still had no answers.  She steeled herself and chose a handful of possible outfits and shut the door refusing to let herself second guess her decisions.  Tina stood motionless staring at the mirror in front of her and came to the realization that at 35 years old she would be going to her very 1st day of work – EVER and she was scared to death.  At no time in her life had she felt so foolish and unable to deal with things.  With only 18 hours left before she was due at the Gallery, she had to pull herself together.  She leaned back on the bed and tried to suppress the tears that were building.  At that moment the phone rang. 

    Tina pulled herself together and answered the phone.

    “Hello”

    “Hi, Mom!”

    “Oh Hi Sweetie.  How has your weekend been?”

    “Great, I’m really starting to make a lot of friends and it’s been fun.  But enough about me, how’s the new working woman?  Are you nervous?  Have you picked out what you’re wearing?  I bet you can’t wait.  I’m so proud of you for not giving up.  And Mom this is the perfect job for you!!  I bet you can’t wait.”

    Tina listened to her wonderful, caring daughter and a single tear ran down her face.  She realized at that moment, that she wasn’t alone.  The last two months had been a silent hell for Tina.  Watching her daughter walk toward her dorm and her new life and away from her after was the single most heart wrenching experience of her life, but at the same time she experienced a level of pride and love that she didn’t know existed.  A part of her had thought she had lost her daughter, her pal, her companion, her life.  But right now at this moment she realized that she wasn’t alone and her wonderful daughter was becoming a woman, who would always be her little girl.

    11. Just discovered this story and caught up. I love it! Yet another B and T beginning with a different twist. I can hardly wait til Tina shows up to work rockin’ that dark blue business suit as well as rockin’ one Ms. Bette Porter!
